They are currently . Older white Bostonians who went through the busing crisis are the most conservative Dems you'll find until you reach Virginia. They're all for govt spending but socially conservative particularly on race issues. While they lost the mayor's office on a fluke (Flynn resigned to become Vatican ambassador, and City Council Prez become mayor then held office for next 20+ years after quickly consolidating power) they won most downballot races until fairly recently. Their last hurrah was putting Scott Brown in the Senate.

I guess he hasn't Made America Great Again yet.


And a related point: Why does our president go around the world and the country continually bad-mouthing the US? It's almost like he hates America.

Cohen states that he was present in a meeting, along with "several others", and that Trump was "informed of the Russians' offer by Trump Jr."Further, Cohen states that Trump "approved going ahead with the meeting with the Russians."

House Republicans won't be interested in "several others" but the Senate intelligence committee will be. Some guy named Mueller, too. And there likely will be a renewed effort to learn more about Junior's post-meeting calls to a blocked number.

Remember when any time Obama had a friendly conversation with another country the GOP and Faux would tell us how he hated America and was always apologizing...wonder whats different?

It wont matter. Even if you believe him (I do) it isnt like he has much credibility anyways and unless he has some evidence that backs up his claim it can be easily dismissed. Mueller can talk to him until he is blue in the face but it wont get do much outside of get him to look for something to corroborate it.

Corroboration either comes from taped conversations or another person who was there. Tapes from what I understand absolutely sunk Nixon. When he's on tape directing the CIA to tell the FBI to back off and authorizing payments to Watergate burglars, it got a little tough to keep defending the guy from the accusations which he himself ended up confirming were true.

If I were Cohen I'd hire a food taster right about now and wear a "KGB Agent Detector" around my neck. I doubt those 100 conversations he taped with Chump are about the weather.

A judge earlier this week has allowed the emoluments case against Trump to proceed forward. Apologies if this was already talked about in this thread, but I hadn't seen it mentioned (not saying I didn't miss it).

The interesting ramifications to this could be that if Trump is found to be in violation of the Emoluments clause, he would be forced to divest his portion of his own company, or potentially walk away from the Presidency.

What I also find interesting is that Trump could potentially appeal this all the way to the supreme court, which he just stacked in his favor.

By the time this works its way through the court system hopefully Chump's presidency would have come to a merciful end at the hands of the voters. Having said that if something is written in the constitution even a stacked SCOTUS might be hesitant to endorse breaking the law. For example, a similarly stacked SCOTUS ruled that George W Bush did not have the power to detain American citizens indefinitely without trail by claiming we were at war. Only certified loon Scalia I believe went along with that position meaning even Roberts and Thomas thought it was nuts. Not sure if Alito was on the court by then.

It seems pretty obvious to me at this point that any law while a Republican President is in the White House is irrelevant as long as the Republicans control one House of Congress. So, the next politician clown that tries the "we're a nation of laws" bit on me is going to get a dismissive chuckle.

I don't think those are the choices. It would basically be up to Congress to impeach and convict him. Do you really see that happening?

Yes. And that's a false choice. It used to be that the President was not above the law. Now he is.

I'm not 100% sold on the "the President can't be charged while in office" schtick. It would have to be a serious crime, and not a traffic violation but treason is a good example or bribery. I don't think we can expect to wait up to 4 years for someone to face justice for either of those examples just because politicians are too wimpy to do the right thing.
