There are ways to reduce the military budget without cutting troops or bases in important parts of the world, smartypants.

The concept is OK with me too. Germany provides support for our operations all over Europe and the middle east, but studying ways to cut back is good.

They just approved legislation that pumped huge dollars into the military. Be interesting to see if this plan is consistent with that or just another impulse.

This is the issue I have with it. Withdrawing troops should be used in concurrence with cutting back on military spending to reinvest into social programs or infrastructure. Instead we just passed the largest military budget ever, but we want to talk about saving money by cutting war games in Korea or doing this, which right now just feels like a way to get back at Merkel.
