Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

Gates is not a lawyer. He earned a Master of Public Policy from GW -- it's a degree they mail to you if you send them two box tops from a Senate subcommittee.

He did get his BA from William and Mary so he's probably not a complete moron, unless daddy bought his way in.

Hmmm. I thought someone told me he was a lawyer. He's just a Charisma dude then, like Dump.

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

I never was a believer of a "good guy with a guy will end the threat." I do believe that a good guy with a gun MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT cause the threat to think twice before becoming a threat, if that makes sense.

That's an awful lot of "mights" there, son. So many as to almost be worthless.

There is a lot of mights. Depends on the mentality of the shooter. If they are intent on death by cop, nothing will change. If they are just an angry individual, they might avoid a place that armed individuals are located.

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

On Wikipedia:

Richard W. Gates III (born April 27, 1972) is an American political consultant, lobbyist and convicted felon

oh my god that's great.

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

That is awesome. If you plead guilty are you convicted yet?

Doesn't the judge actually have to sentence you?

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

But...................but..............................he had a GUN!!!!!

All you need to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. Unless you need to wait for backup while 17 kids get slaughtered.
Yeah you don't really get to push the whole good guy with a gun narrative and then when it's clearly proven to be BS, you shift the goalposts and say actually we needed more good guyS with gunS.

Obviously I don't actually blame the guy for using his frontal lobe and not rushing in to get killed.

I don't think sentencing is required to be listed as convicted. Once you plead guilty or the verdict is read your convicted.

Well if you plead guilty I believe the judge has to accept the terms of the plea and in some cases (like for petty misdemeanor type stuff) you can sometimes get out of a conviction. Or in some cases the judge can just throw it out altogether.

Either way it's just one of those funny wikipedia edits that got quickly taken down.

Well, there are always ways for convictions to be overturned. That doesn't change his status for today.

A judge can deny a deal or overrule a sentence recommendation but it is quite rare. (IIRC)

On another note...another epic twitter thread about Gates and Manafort!

There's a lot more bad "mights" than good ones too. A teacher might pull a George Zimmerman and shoot a kid, a gun might go off in class, schools might go broke from the increased insurance policies they're surely going to have to pay if every teacher is armed, a kid might take the teacher's gun and start ***** around.

Re: POTUS 45.29: Eggs and Tweet Storms for Breakfast

The Whiner-in-Chief was at it again, today, crying that Jared wasn't--you guessed it--being treated fairly. As Fox's Shep Smith correctly pointed out, Kushner's multiple omissions on required financial disclosure forms for his security clearance would “be a crime, punishable by prison” for other people not in Trump's family.

He also whined that he had "inherited" a broken security clearance problem. Typical Trump--blame someone else, anyone else but his team. Meanwhile they had warnings from multiple sources that Flynn was a security risk and could be compromised, but Dishonest Donnie kept him on for another three weeks and then tried to get Comey to go easy on him.

Toddlers are better at taking responsibility than the national embarrassment in the White House

The judge has to accept the plea, which requires a sometimes lengthy colloquy between the judge and the defendant, sometimes at a separate hearing. Once the Court is satisfied the plea is knowing and voluntary and that all of the defendant's constitutional rights have been protected, the judge can enter the judgment of conviction. Sentencing is a separate matter.

I can't say how things like ordinance violations and other administrative offenses go.

All ex porn stars know this stuff.

Recently filed federal charges against President Donald Trump's ex-campaign chairman Paul Manafort could also pose legal and regulatory risks for the banks that loaned him millions of dollars against his New York real estate in recent years. The most serious exposure may be for a Rhode Island-based bank that employed a "conspirator" in Manafort's scheme to obtain a loan he couldn't afford, according to the 32-count new indictment unsealed this week.

Dubbed "Lender B" in court papers, Citizens Bank not only lent Manafort $3.4 million based off of fraudulent documents but, in another case, appeared to help Manafort avoid being caught by sending back a crudely falsified financial statement that had been sent to them from a Manafort associate, according to federal prosecutors.

"Looks Dr'd," the unnamed banker allegedly wrote. "Can't someone just do a clean excel doc and pdf to me-"

Peter Lugcht, a bank spokesman, declined to acknowledge that Citizens was "Lender B" or answer questions about whether Citizens had reported the alleged loan application fabrications to the government. He also wouldn't say whether it still employed the person identified as a conspirator.

The Associated Press identified "Lender B" and other unidentified banks referenced in court papers by cross-referencing loan amounts and dates described in the indictment with publicly available property records in New York City.

Experts told the AP the bank's behavior as described in the indictment will cause problems for it beyond a possible loss on its loan, drawing scrutiny from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

"I would expect the OCC upon reading this indictment or news accounts of the indictment to immediately launch an investigation of what went on," said Kevin Handly, a banking lawyer and former senior attorney for the Federal Reserve Board.
