There are some really good poll cut numbers in the embedded (7 page) doc in the link.

What should be alarming to some is that the viewership was:
42% R
33% I
25% D

and the approval was:
75% approve
25% disapprove

I see an interesting alignment in number of Ds and the disapproval numbers.

Overall, 53% had a "very positive" reaction to the President's speech, matching the highest rating of his presidency reached following his 2013 address. Another 20% said they had a somewhat positive reaction to his speech, 25% reported a negative one.

Yeah it was well written and well spoken. When the only complaint is he had spittle on the side of his mouth it says a lot.

Plus Kepler isnt excited about him so it automatically means he has a shot at higher office ;)

There's some truth to this.

It was nice not to have our usual "and now with the Democratic response, the Crypt Keeper" face on the teevee. If the Dems did that to appeal to the kiddies then that was dumb because nobody under 70 watches any SOTU and nobody under 80 watched this one where the hero is a wheezing bigot who used to actually hang out with Roy Cohn.

Its more than that though and you know it. The rebuttal is often the next big up and comer. Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindahl were the next big thing in the GOP and they never recovered from their massive flubs. If Kennedy has plans for higher office (and he is a Kennedy so we can bet he does) and if the Dems think he is a rising star this was his shot to prove it. I think we can all say he passed.

I dont see him running for anything now, but next stop is a prime time convention speech. 2024 or 2028 (depending on how 2020 goes) he will have a good shot along with guys like Gavin Newsome.

More important though was the actual message, and even though it is basic it was the exact right message to give. "We Choose Both" was the perfect line. That needs to be the platform. (or some variant of it) It cant be one or the other anymore it has to be everyone.

Also, they need to go young with this nomination. (another thing Kennedy showed) They need someone who is passionate and closer in age to the voters of the Democratic Party. They cannot go geriatric or they are in big trouble. We suspected this anyways but I think Kennedy proved it.

Who said he was the gold standard? I cited three pundits. Not one. And none of them are the Gold Standard. Rachel is the gold standard. Lawrence is the gold standard.

Was never going to happen. Never. Just cause a bunch of pundits on TV who know nothing about nothing got all wet over them doesn't mean squat to the racist Republican mainstream.
