POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

Never said that. Remember, I want Trump out of office.

Also, I am not Republican. As stated many times before, I lean conservative, but that does NOT make me part of ANY party. The words shoved in my mouth in these past few posts are incredible, and show binary thinking. "You're not a Democrat? Than you must be a Bible-thumping backwoods, racist anti-gay, anti-environment Tea Party Republican!"

It's truly amazing that any conversation can happen when the majority of people think in either/or terms, instead of shades of gray.

I sympathize with this in theory, but as I think came up before if you find yourself north of 75% voting for a party then you are a de facto member of that party regardless of what you call yourself. That's especially true when that party has moved at light speed to the fringe the way the GOP has since the late 70s.

The GOP is now significantly father to the right of the 1975 GOP than the 1975 GOP was from the 1975 Democratic party.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

Walks like a duck. Quacks like a duck. It's a duck.

I mean, look back only five or six years ago and you’d see a pretty drastic shift in my ideology. Am I a democrat now? Or just someone who votes for them now despite my voting record in the past?

I don’t know. But I’m starting to feel like a Democrat more and more each day because I’m so repulsed by what I see on the right.

We all evolve. I just think that where we are at today is one party is anti-America. And that party is the Republicans. I understand how they got here. I understand why they're doing what they're doing. But it's wrong. And the only thing that stands against them is the Democratic Party. Why? Our system is why. Our system is two party. Hate it or love it that's the way it is set up. And because of that for the people to take back their government there truly only is one choice. And anyone who stands against that choice is a duck. Plain and simple.

So say we all. We need to build on this. All of us who realize Dump is unfit need to push together to fumigate the White House. This won't benefit the liberals -- Dump will be easier to run against than Pence. But Dump is too dangerous to our institutions and to our physical security. Pence, while awful on policy, is awful on policy. Pence is not a fascist -- he's a religious fanatic with ridiculous beliefs on economics and society but he fits well within the spectrum of democratic political activity and action. He is, in a word, fit for office. I think I would disagree with 99.99% of his ideas and would want to defeat him at every turn, but I would not be afraid of what he was doing to our democratic traditions.

Dump is an existential threat to democracy in America. He must be condemned, rooted out, and expunged. All of us -- liberal, moderate, and conservative -- who are good Americans who respect our tradition have to boot that turd back to Moscow.

This. Exactly this. Holy crap, Scooby, this is sensible! Are you feeling OK? ;)

Same here, though my big shift was from 20 to 15 years ago. I went from hard core small l libertarian / big I Independent to hard core small l liberal / big D Democratic. I got married, took responsibility for a child, in a word: grew up.

I was militantly Independent before and believed that being a member of a party was "his mind for rent to a god or government." But that is not true in the real world. Theoretically, yes, understood. But parties are the way we get sh-t done in this country, so you can either stand outside in purity and contribute nothing or get inside, get your hands dirty, have to work side by side with guys like Rover who detest you, BUT at the end of the day get stuff accomplished. In a situation like today when we are fighting for the continued existence of democracy in the most powerful nation on earth, taking a stand is important. The direness of the situation is a force multiplier for the pressure on me to commit.

If we stop fighting our enemies, the world will die.

Exactly. And for people who ***** about "lesser of two evils" or "I hate the two-party system" then get out to your local primaries and get involved. You can get a more sensible candidate in. So do something about it or stop b-tching.

Pretty much my road.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

you should have done something to help keep him out of office. you probably won't even bother to vote against him in 2020 because "both sides are bad"

Oh look, another libt*rd who's just proving the points that Brent's making. Somehow I get the feeling that your only hope for retribution is that what you support through a misrepresented interpretation of the law of disjunctive inference screws you over, and if you even have any brain cells left in there that allow you to have rational thoughts of your own, they present to you a "Why the heck did I fall enslaved to a duopoly?" moment that you actually act upon, and decide to break the conditioning your party has done upon you. I'll tell you, from experience, it was quite liberating in 2011.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

You want to see the REAL damage Trump is doing to the World.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/12/...news-dictators.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur

When Amnesty International released a report about prison deaths in Syria, the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, retorted that “we are living in a fake-news era.” President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela, who is steadily rolling back democracy in his country, blamed the global media for “lots of false versions, lots of lies,” saying “this is what we call ‘fake news’ today.”

In Myanmar, where international observers accuse the military of conducting a genocidal campaign against the Rohingya Muslims, a security official told The New York Times that “there is no such thing as Rohingya,” adding: “It is fake news.” In Russia, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told a CNN reporter to “stop spreading lies and fake news.” Her ministry now uses a big red stamp, “FAKE,” on its website to label news stories it dislikes.

He is destroying everything in the world. Everything.

Guess what? They did that. And that's why we have Donald Trump today, instead of some establishment RINO. One of these days, you'll begin to understand that the duopoly is so entrenched that in order to break it, you have to actually infiltrate it.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

He only has the power we give him. He is impotent -- literally -- without our clicks, our ratings, our votes.

We have it in our power to drive him and his scummy followers back under their rocks. All it takes is an act of will among the 65% to say "No more. You are through." That means the portion of that 65% who made alliances of convenience with him to get their "tax reform" bills or their "religious freedom" judge have to say "I won't play with you anymore -- I will find another way without you."

Republicans of Conscience can save the world. They did it in Alabama. It can be done.

It's truly amazing that any conversation can happen when the majority of people think in either/or terms, instead of shades of gray.

It's so easy to complain when you don't vote. So very easy- it's clearly everybody else's fault and not yours at all.

Dude, the only legal way people leave office is if people VOTE. That's it. It's also the most reasonable way of doing it, too- as term limits are stupid. It may get people you don't want there to leave, but it also takes perfectly good or even decent politicians and throws them out. And the constant churn of people make it impossible to really track an effective government.

So when you complain about every single person in politics are bad, it IS your fault. Vote, for crying out loud. This isn't rocket science, it's putting some credibility that you actually care.

If you want a third party, the only way they will ever get any traction is if you and people who think like you actually get out and vote FOR THEM. It's not a throw away vote if you are voting for someone you want. Geez.

BTW, when you go through all of those shades of gray, if you ONLY had a choice between R and D, which one would click the most boxes. Not on what they say they are going to do, but what the parties have actually DONE. THAT is the real problem. R's constantly paint the picture of black and white in terms of good and evil, emphasizing single items that they rarely do anything about, when many D's have rather nuanced views of things.

Some D's are actually against gun control. Some are pro life. Some are fiscally conservative- even though they want to fund things to take care of people. You want shades of gray, Democrats are the party for you.

And stop with the whole crap that both parties are bad. People say that because THEIR party is crap, and are convinced that Democrats are evil.

Just say that you don't agree with either party, and that you are finding a third party.

There is no 3rd party.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

Or if you literally hate everyone, then run. Otherwise you are opting out of democracy and that is even worse than voting for Dump.

Re: POTUS 45.25: Oh Jesus, What Now

I seem to recall people predicting this well over a year ago. So for those people who made those predictions but are too humble to get into your face.

They told you so.

You needn't look any farther than Rick Nolan and a number of the other outstate MN representatives. Even Governor Dayton isn't big on major overhauls IIRC.
