I'm a Democrat, most of my friends are Democrats, and I can promise you that we don't think like this at all. The conservatives in flyover states like Iowa have been brainwashed by Faux News to believe that all Democrats want to take your guns, hate religion, and kill your babies. It's freaking ridiculous. The "coastal elites" aren't the only ones with the problem here, it's also the fact that conservatives in Iowa and other flyover states are unable to think for themselves and recognize what their real problems are and the countries real problems are. The media they consume has rotted their critical thinking skills. I've seen it first hand with my retired dad in Iowa, he consumes Faux News all day long and it's completely changed the way he thinks and sees other people. It's really sad.

And can you imagine how hard it is to try to straddle both worlds. Saw it all the time when I worked for the ND Legislature in the 1980's and dealt with lobbyists. Flyover kids who went east to get that Ivy education, only to return home. It was for family reasons, I was told. Safe neighborhoods. Cheap housing. Close to elderly relatives. But, of course, even with that Ivy degree they never were really accepted by or treated as equals by the Coasties. They were just that novelty, a friend/roommate from "what midwestern state" who was nice, but just didn't have the network in NYC that could benefit them.

My dad is the same. He was a life long Dem and now is a Faux junkie.
I consider him lost and don't even bother. At least my mom cancels his vote.
Speaking of Faux, I tune in every once in a while to see what they're spewing and Hannity last night was predictably skewering Mueller.
Hannity is a traitor. Plain and simple.
I know this isn't a revelation, but I want to rip that flag lapel from his coat.

That's probably true if they went for the "make money" majors -- but if they did that then their peers were as-sholes to begin with.
There was absolutely no difference in the way midwesterners and coasties were treated at my school by my friends, because we simply did. not. give. a. sh-t. We were students. The moment we stepped on campus we were "from" Ithaca. It was our parents who lived in whatever backwater sh-thole we came from. That wasn't us. We were there to get the f-ck away from them and hopefully never, ever go back.

Coasties definitely can at least "get" flyovers because flyovers are 30 miles outside every city in America. If you live in Philadelphia and want to get flyovers you drive to King of Prussia and you're waist deep in them.
Flyovers think they "get" coasties because they turn on the TeeVee and see Jimmy Kimmel. There's some truth to that, but it's mediated by wealth. Flyovers in actual flyover states rarely ever see real people coasties, whereas coasties see real people flyovers all the f-cking time.

Red states are doing everything they can to make an abortion more difficult to get. I predict that abortion will become illegal in the next 5-10 years if Trump gets another SC justice through, if the R's decide they don't need the issue as a fundraiser anymore.

Or what your party has done to Planned Parenthood. That doesn't even scratch the surface of what they've done to voting rights in this country. As for Brown People try being brown and a Muslim in this country for 5 minutes. Let's not even get started on the differences between Vegas and New York and Republicans response to it.

It's an evergreen fundraising bonanza, it takes people like joe who would vote Democratic on virtually every other issue and makes them a LOCKED IN Republican vote. And they can force their mistresses or daughters or presumably slaves coming soon or what have you to get abortions whenever they knock them up.
If Roe was overturned the next election would go 70% Democratic as every dumbsumb-tch Republican voter looked at tax policy for the first time since 1974 and said, "holy--- WHAT THE F-CK????!!!!"
