POTUS 45.22 - The Genius of Donald Trump

Just as all the "People's Republics of ___" of the Soviet block have gone away.

Capitalism is the worst economic system out there, except for all the others.

Unregulated capitalism is a complete disaster, as bad or worse than any communist economy.

Re: POTUS 45.22 - The Genius of Donald Trump

Again, Adam Smith understood the need for progressive taxation 300 years ago. This isn't exactly a new or unproven concept.

He also went out of his way to say we needed a social safety net.

So did Hayek.

My God, if the so-called "free marketeers" understood that they'd have a heart attack.

Re: POTUS 45.22 - The Genius of Donald Trump

Subtle difference but could be very important.

Yup.
And that's why I ask and wonder if the halcyon days (in your mind) of 90% marginal rates are just wonderful rhetoric.

If the 90% marginal rate applied to 0.0000000001% of earners it was useless.

Depends on the Communist economy.

Soviet "Communism" was a kleptocratic police state that used "Communism" as a cover story the way North Korea has "Democratic" in its name.

Benedictine Communism created some of the most dynamic economic growth of the early Medieval period, plus really good wines.

But again, the real action is lower down in the 40%s through 80%s. That's where you get non-trivial sample sizes.

Median income in 2010 was $50,000. Holy sh-t -- it looks like that table tracks fairly closely with what I pulled out of my butt a while ago!

Maybe not, but that road does. That electrical grid does. That next generation internet does.

The road, sure.
But the grid and the internet are built mainly with private dollars.

PS - If there's no factory, where's the road go to? And why build the lines (electric, internet) if there's no factory to serve?

Oh, you mean that stuff that business uses all the time but doesn't pay any taxes to build it in the first place?

Yeah, but the Benes were/are under the thumb of the, as you say, "invisible man". That's a non-starter for you. Sorry. < shrug >

There's no "one" factory. There's dozens and dozens of others. These days, they're mostly in China, where your beloved CEO's moved to in pursuit of the almighty dollar.

And really? There's no public utilities? The internet wasn't spawned out of government research and technology?

That is the worst thing American business ever did, namely, move off shore.

But why'd they do it? Yup, profits.
Why? We demanded better performance out of our 401k and they got a better business environment to meet that demand.

Take inspiration where we can find it. And anyway, the Benedictines nicked monastic communism from Plato who hadn't a care in the world for magical booba booga other than as a noble lie to keep the orcs in chec--

Huh.

Ok. I reverse myself on religion. I think it's swell, and of course I'm a believer, and everybody else should be, too.

We? We've been demanding higher wages too. They gave us the middle finger for that.

There are public utilities; there are IOUs*; there are REC**s. In terms of dollars spend on building the grid, the RECs and IOUs are far in front.

Al Gore invent... nevermind. :D
Is the government burying the line so you can surf, or is your (private corporate***) ISP?

*invest owned utilities
**rural electric cooperatives (private orgs)
***assumes not on rural telecom cooperative (which is still private)

"Give me more money in my 401k and my paycheck." <-- Uh ... how. What are you doing to add more value so there's more money to give you?

Or it had to do with the ability to use slave labor so they could pocket more money. But sure keep trying...

You finally figured out religion is a means to social control and order. ;)

Ugly statement warning, read on at own peril:
Slave labor is part of the better business environment some chose. Labor costs were lower, and Scoob's 401k benefited.

That's why I said "That is the worst thing American business ever did, namely, move off shore." It's bad enough to sell your soul for a dollar, but to buy into slavery too is disgusting. Shame on Nike et al.

That's a beautiful chart.
