Re: POTUS 45.20 - Doddering Dotards Dodging Detente

He walked out after the anthem, he didn't disrespect God, his country, the miltary, Francis scott Key, Betsy Ross, did I leave anyone out?

Neither did the players.

Re: POTUS 45.20 - Doddering Dotards Dodging Detente

Neither did the players.

According to Trumps base they did which is obviously why Pence left. Does anyone really think Trump would have left a game 5 or 6 years ago because the players knelt during the Anthem?

No, I don't think so. But that was part of my point that only an ignorant constituency would fail to see hypocrisy and wrongheadedness of the statement.

Obvious, I know.

And according to his base he is super smart, represents their interests and has never done a thing wrong. Doesnt make it true.

Re: POTUS 45.20 - Doddering Dotards Dodging Detente

Stolen from Facebook:

George Clooney in Response to Trump calling him a Hollywood elite:
"Here’s the thing: I grew up in Kentucky. I sold insurance door-to-door. I sold ladies’ shoes. I worked at an all-night liquor store. I would buy suits that were too big and too long and cut the bottom of the pants off to make ties so I’d have a tie to go on job interviews. I grew up understanding what it was like to not have health insurance for eight years. So this idea that I’m somehow the “Hollywood elite” and this guy who takes a [bleep] in a gold toilet is somehow the man of the people is laughable. People in Hollywood, for the most part, are people from the Midwest who moved to Hollywood to have a career. So this idea of “coastal elites” living in a bubble is ridiculous. Who lives in a bigger bubble? He lives in a gold tower and has twelve people in his company. He doesn’t run a corporation of hundreds of thousands of people he employs and takes care of. He ran a company of twelve people! When you direct a film you have seven different unions all wanting different things, you have to find consensus with all of them, and you have to get them moving in the same direction. He’s never had to do any of that kind of stuff. I just look at it and I laugh when I see him say “Hollywood elite.” Hollywood elite? I don’t have a star on Hollywood Boulevard, Donald Trump has a star on Hollywood Boulevard! [bleep] you!"

Re: POTUS 45.20 - Doddering Dotards Dodging Detente

Only a braindead constituency....

And there you have just described nearly every single person who voted for donald trump.

pence's stunt is just the latest example of what is becoming the most hypocritical administration in the nation's history, which is no easy feat. As political discourse has sunk deeper and deeper into the sewer over the last couple of decades one of the things we have sometimes decried is when one side would blast the other side's motives as being unpatriotic. But it can't be denied any longer and we can't be silent about it in hopes of some futile effort to lift the conversation out of the sewer. republicans ARE unpatriotic. It's unquestionable. If you support them YOU are unpatriotic. A spade MUST be called a spade. Neither party has spent much energy during my lifetime of truly moving the people to a better future, and both have done many things that have had the opposite effect. But what is passing as the republican party right now is for the most part a collection of people whose shameful lack of respect for our constitution and abandonment of anything remotely resembling patriotism must be called out. Shame on you if you can find any reason at all to support republicans at any level unless they are actively calling out trump and his administration for what they are. Is this a divisive opinion? Sure is. It divides the idiots from thinkers. It divides those who care about this country from those who care only to enrich themselves. It divides the patriots who actually love this country and would like to have some hope for it from the traitors who would see it fall before they bring their party to answer for the harm it is doing, not just to America but to the entire world.

He wouldn't have left it 2 yrs ago.

Too bad no one will read that. It is too long for them to read thru

Wisco- spot on. And any attempt to actually point this out and the strategy is to ostracize and blackball. I am also seeing folks on my FB feed who, when confronted with logic, pull the I am a [pick your Service Branch] and went to war bearing arms to protect you. Yes you did. Thank you for your service but telling people you served doesn't make you untouchable when it comes to being called on being illogical. More than one person. People have gone off the deep end. I am extremely appreciative of those who serve but last I checked none of them are deities (my father might disagree). Using service as a trump card is the latest trend to excuse lack of accountability. I find this using them as an excuse is an insult to the honor of those who serve(d).

Working in a Long Term Care facility this semester. Listening to tRump talk is like listening to the little old ladies with dementia. Vague responses, saying things that have nothing to do with the topic, word choice problems, confabulation when not knowing the answers. All that is missing is the chair alarm when he stands up

My father nearly died in the South Pacific and was awarded a silver star, though he never talked about either the war or the medal. He quietly republican all his life, but I know, just as sure as I am typing this, that he would have been offended by Pence's cheap trick.

Re: POTUS 45.20 - Doddering Dotards Dodging Detente

An ethics group has filed complaint for Pences stunt today. Flying on taxpayer dollars just to walk in and stage a walkout. Reporters following him were told to stay in the van for the early walk out lol.

Re: POTUS 45.20 - Doddering Dotards Dodging Detente

Pence exercised his right to free speech, as the players did.

The money for that trip was spent. He made the trip. If he stayed for the full game and voiced displeasure at the players' protest, would there be as much outrage? Probably not. But since he spent about 10 minutes at the game, suddenly it's a waste of money?

Free speech goes both ways. He's not shutting the players down.

This goes for both sides: if someone's actions doesn't fit your parameters, doesn't mean they are wrong. They just don't agree with you. That's it. Nothing more.

Edit: the photo stunt is BS, I will agree.

He flew in for the unveiling of a Peyton Manning statue. He wasn't supposed to leave IND for LAX until after the game.

If he had gone to the game and stayed then the trip makes sense. He wasted money because he went to the game for the express purpose of snowflaking. He never planned to watch, he planned to see the protest and leave. Why should my tax dollars pay for that?

Free speech isnt the point. He has a right to be mad about the protest...but he can do that from DC he doesnt need to waste money flying to Indy so he can make himself look like he cares about the troops. (he doesnt)

If what MNS said is true (I don't know if it is or not), that changes the narrative, correct? Goes back to the trip was happening, no matter what. What happened after that moment was up to Pence.

And you know for a FACT he went there to "snowflake?" I'm no fan of Pence, but really?

No. Pence speaks as Vice President of the United States. He has sworn to uphold the constitution, yet he is, by this action, advocating for the suppression of political speech. We all know it is a cheap political stunt, but I don't think it is an exaggeration to say it is also dangerously irresponsible and ignorant. To compare his act of expression to that of the players is just more false equivalency. His act is one of suppression.

This sort of stunt is beneath the dignity of the office. He needs to act like a ****ing adult.
