POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

If the intention of this is to open a dialog, can we do the same- ban gun and ammo sales for just 120 days so that we can open up a dialog?

We are pretty outside of hunting season, so the impact will be minimal (as is being used as an excuse for the people coming to the US), and it's only temporary (another excuse).

It's high time that we take a long look at our gun policy in regards to the actual number of Americans harmed, especially when you put that number, annually, next to the sum of all non-military Americans that have been harmed by the 7 countries over all time. Actually, feel free to add in all of the Europeans harmed, too. Guns are clearly a much bigger threat than the infamous 7.

Would like to see a rumor get started on this. Gun sales would go through the roof and there would be more people on the right side of the issue.

Re: POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

Jeff Sessions during Yates' confirmation hearings:

Yates: If I’m going to be doing battle with anybody, I want to make sure I have the law, and the facts, and the precedent behind me, to be able to give a reasoned judgement. And if I’m in a discussion where people have different views, I want to make sure I have what I need to back up my views.

Sessions: You have to watch out, because people will be asking you to do things that you just need to say no about. Do you think the attorney general has a responsibility to say ‘No’ to the president if he asks for something that’s improper?... if the views a president wants to execute are unlawful, should the attorney general or the deputy attorney general say no?

Yates: Senator, I believe that the attorney general or the deputy attorney general has an obligation to follow the law and the Constitution.

Sessions: Like any CEO with a law firm, sometimes the lawyers have to tell the CEO, ‘Mr. CEO you can’t do that. Don’t do that. You’ll get us sued. It’s going to be in violation of the law, you’ll regret it. Please.’ No matter how headstrong they might be. Do you feel like that’s the duty of the attorney general’s office?

Yates: I do believe that’s the duty of the attorney general’s office; to fairly and impartially evaluate the law and to provide the president and the administration with impartial legal advice.

Sessions: I remember John Ashcroft as an attorney general for Bush. He’s been celebrated. When he was in the hospital they tried to get him to sign a document that dealt with terrorism that he thought went too far. He refused to do so. So I hope that you feel free to say ‘No’ in the character of John Ashcroft and others who said ‘No’ to President Nixon on certain issues.

This really can't be spread fast enough haha

I tend to agree very narrowly with the bolded part your post, and broadly with what I assume is your general disapproval of this. I don't think this is the way to go on the issues. We don't create constitutional crises. This is a very, very bad idea.

I read an article once where someone pretty high up in one of the companys that makes ammo was interviewed about the great ammunition "shortage" that existed during the first 4-5 years of Obama's presidency. He said it's a strange phenomena with ammunition buyers. If they go into a store intending to buy one box of ammunition and there are 25 boxes on the shelves, they'll buy one box. However, if there are only five boxes on the shelves, they will buy all five, even though they only intended to buy one.

I have to assume there might be other products out there where similar experiences exist, but I'd love to hear from experienced marketers about the human psychology that plays into this. Gotta be a hoarder mentality of some sort.

Wow, now that we're aware of this breaking news we can discuss it for 10 pages or so.

Flag just finished jerking himself off over the fact it was a Muslim that shot up the Mosque in Canada. He has a little catching up to do, just wait until he sees it was actually a white nationalist/Trump supporter.

And wait until you find out it's a false flag spread by a parody account that specializes in fake news.

I think Drew's just joking that it would be the worst possible way to limit gun sales. He's right, the gun industry has so primed their market that anything that happens now results in more profits. They must lie awake at night hoping for mass shootings.

It's 100% true. As far as gun owners go, things really sucked during the Brady days. I know I don't want to get caught out again and I'm sure a lot of other gun owners feel the same way. I feel more confident than I did five years ago anti-gun stuff won't pass but who knows. Things go in cycles and the democrats will control everything again at some point.

You know what's funny? Trump got inaugurated/elected, and the democrats started buying up...

Yeah, it wouldn't be good for anyone. I think eventually we'll reach a point where people are so stocked up there won't be as much of a reaction.

Maybe Brent can explain to us again how Yates was wrong. I'd love to hear the argument.

EDIT: and to hammer it home.

"I've never read White House statement as nasty as Trump's attack on Acting AG Sally Yates. New low," said John Dean, who was White House counsel to Richard Nixon during Watergate.
