A Mexican standoff between Trump, Ryan/McConnell, and the Freedumbs is going to be a pretty self-destructive way for the GOP to spend the next 14 months.
And they'll still get their requisite votes.
Maybe not. The vote in 2016 was a middle finger to the status quo. Well, the status quo is now entirely Republican. They will try to run against Washington but now they are Washington. The Fox crowd will fall for it, but they aren't enough to win an election -- you also need employed people who want to feel like their kids have a shot. These Republicans haven't given them any reason to feel that way. These Republicans are obviously only about feathering their own nests, and people hate that.
The Democrats can still blow it of course by letting BLM and the Millennial Snot Nosed Front be their public face. But that tends to happen in years when the fix is in, and 2020 will be a wide open nomination. Barring something stupendously f-cked up like Kanye/Streisand pulling a Trump, the candidates will sort themselves into orderly little rows of moderates and liberals and we'll wind up with a split ticket, most likely with the moderate at the top. Breitbart and Trump will be calling from inside the house, and people will just want relief from the clown show. Trump will have had almost 2 full years of CronyCrime to be attacked on. And the Noise Machine and the NRA will be looking at their lower revenue and thinking about how much more they can extract from the suckers as the opposition.
tl; dr: Fatigue and the intangibles will be working for us this time.
You still fail to realize that NONE of the people voting against Washington will EVER think that Donald Trump or any other Republican they voted for is Washington. It never happens. The rules are different. Republicans never have to bathe in their own stink no matter how ****ing bad it smells.
Let's all pause for a moment to reflect that independent of his other moral and ethical failings, the President is, at bottom, rock stupid.
2006. 2008. It happens.
Uh, huh. And people forgot as soon as 2010. Democrats they never forget.
But in 2010 we were in power.
I'm saying that in that final 10 percent people are voting based on resentment and anger at the incumbent. It's not about issues or stances or policy or history. It's just that incumbency is a red cape and those people are the bull.
If this is true we should see an oscillation as the out party benefits from that anger, becomes the in party, and then immediately becomes hated for being the incumbent.
LOL. And you think it's even?
That oscillation may occur but the number of intractable's (the ones that always vote one side or for their party's nominee) on the right FAR EXCEED the number on the left.
What needs to happen before moderates and not so deep right leaning GOP's yell 'stop?'
“@realDonaldTrump: I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, September 11th.”
Our President, folks.

What is interesting is that the Republican Party obviously has this deep pool of nutjobs on the far Right, that the rest of the party willingly ignores just to keep majority control. The rest of the party kowtow's to the fringe.
Obviously we've seen a whole bunch of potential fracture points that should have happened, and yet, GOP stalwarts continue to plod along as if everything is a-okay.

Most of the people want him to step down. When is he going to defer to their will? It's being yelled now. What was seen in 2011 is exactly what's being seen today, and it takes a man like Donald Trump to stand up to those morons and say "no more". He has no deference to any political party; his deference is to the people.
No, there are more of us. We have the popular vote in 6 of the last 7 elections. We out-polled the GOP in House elections by over a million votes last time even in the face of the New Jim Crow.
There are more of us, and there are fewer of them every day as they die of their life decisions younger than we do. And while they use their women as incubators we also have the enormous majority of new immigrants.
Their only hope is to cheat and they couldn't even cheat on their own in 2016, they needed the Russians' help. We will continue to oscillate until either the plutes stage a coup or we get our republic back.
In Electoral College land there is more of THEM than US. And that's not going to change.
