I support it whether military members do or not.

I'm sure plenty of military could be found who find it disrespectful.

Wouldn't change my mind.


As UNO said, the anthem and the flag are so much more than just the military.

Agreed on all points, you can definitely fine military members who do or don't support your opinion but that probably shouldn't be what you base it on anyhow.

Also, you cannot rely on Facebook or any social media for anything. Russia is creating fake bot accounts all the time that take Republican positions.

Some libs have gotten in on the act, too. There are accounts like "DC Resister Bee" and "IMPEACH HIM" that constantly Tweet left-wing meme spam in response to Trump's Tweets.

Agreed, and don't know if you are referring to me, but my feed that I'm talking about are my friends - not the news feed.

Like I said, I was surprised at some of them, but I don't do politics on Facebook. Ever. So I let it all go.

I have much the same result. Most I was not surprised by. Mostly just disappointed. I don't do that on Facebook either. I have posted NOTHING about this issue there.

Here's another anecdotal take:

I have a good friend who grew up, lives in, and works in what might generically be called "the ghetto" here in SWFL. (It is a serious mess.) I find it kind of interesting because there's a disproportionate number of pro athletes from this area, even my daughter's perennial cellar dwelling high school has alumni currently playing in all 3 major pro leagues. Anyway, my friend's take is basically that it's all an overblown circus and a bunch of bs that isn't accomplishing anything. "Take a knee, play a game, get in your Ferrari and blow 10 grand on dinner. Big ****ing help to these kids..." Or words to that effect.

He basically is coming at it from the view that the most of the guys he grew up with, and most of dozens of guys since, get a pro contract, move up, move out, and are never seen again in the community. (except maybe they show up to get a number retired at the old high school and collect accolades) I don't know how true that all is but, needless to say, he has a pretty cynical view of the whole thing.


Also anecdotally, my wife is very liberal, but she is also kind of steamed at the knee taking deal. Not sure why exactly.

It's because she's a racist who wraps herself in the flag. There is no other explanation.

That wasn't what I was LOL'ing at. It was the source of where it came from and how hard this is being pushed by the media.

I was going to post the same thing. It's bizarre how people get so upset at those they don't agree with. I definitely don't think a lot of the people here are idiots just because we don't see eye to eye on everything.

I don't have a problem with the taking the knee. I will never know what it's like to be a black man, rich or poor, and have to be terrified that being pulled over by the police might result in an arrest, an altercation or even death so I have no right/authority/whatever to tell them to protest any different. It doesn't offend me. In fact, I applaud them for making the effort.

The poutrage of people is actually quite comical. Boycott the NFL? Great! More chances for me to get tickets. That unfortunately never materialized for Hamilton. Bummer.

I really don't have a problem with the taking a knee, it doesn't affect me if they do it or not, and it is their right. If the players that do it think it is beneficial, and helps their cause, then go ahead, I don't care. But, at the same time, I can see the reasoning behind some people being upset, especially veterans and people who served. Some will be upset, others will support the protest. Guess what? We are all American citizens, and we all have the freedom to make that choice for ourselves. I don't see a reason to demonize someone on either side of this argument, just because they have a different viewpoint. Its not like everyone that disagrees with the protest actually disagrees with the point the protest is trying to make, they're not mutually exclusive.

So if one percent are fine with it the rest should go **** themselves? That makes a lot of sense.
