To me, it does insult. To you, it doesn't, so be it. And the fact that we CAN have this discussion, and CAN stand/kneel, is a credit to those people who fought for that right.

Well to (most of them) them it doesnt either so I will take their opinion over ours since they actually served.

Particularly the people who have fought those who have argued that protest is unpatriotic.

There are legions of active duty soldiers and vets who are expressing their solidarity with the protesters, who have taken a knee beside them, who have said the right of protest is what they fought for.

But most importantly, the players taking a knee are fighting for equal treatment of all. Given the choice, that's what I respect. A flag is just a rag on a pole unless it's backed up by ideals.

How is it an insult to you, personally? Did you serve? Can you stand in the shoes of any vet? Or are you projecting your feelings?

It's also funny that you can be "insulted" like this, but others should be able to take verbal insults directly put onto them. Odd how that works.

I'm with bob costas on this one, the protesting players are the true patriots out there right now. They are among the most privelidged group economically but stand up to protest how others are being treated.

Do more.

I swear Brent has the exact opposite opinion when it comes to team names/mascots...

Good question, Joe. And, I have an answer. The Deplorables did. You know, the one's were all supposed to listen to at election time.

Re: POTUS 45.19: Being Douced by Irma makes me sad!!

I see that now that the "I would get fired if I protested in uniform" meme has died (since the NFL backs its employee's protests) the new thing on social media is to attack the players for their crimes (something we all do anyways and the average NFL fan ignores cause...duh WINNING!) in hopes THAT somehow shows they are wrong. Keep trying Righties you only look more foolish every time you try this crap.

So apparently opinions can be wrong now?

1. I disagree with not standing for anthem.
2. I will defend a person's right to not stand for anthem, however.

It's not that difficult to comprehend.

As I've posted earlier I really don't have strong feelings either way. I did notice yesterday though that some friends of mine who served said it bothered them on Facebook. The NFL players should have respect for them.

Re: POTUS 45.19: Being Douced by Irma makes me sad!!

The origin of playing the national anthem at a sporting event was a World Series game between the Cubs and Red Sox. The Cubs had a band at their game, because, well why else would you ever go to a Cubs game.

In the middle of the game the band struck up the national anthem, presumably to distract people from the mess on the field. A couple of Boston players felt it necessary to salute and sing along, thus applying peer pressure on the other players and fans to do the same. A "tradition" was thus born.

All this recent debate reminds us of is how truly horrible the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, and their associated fan bases are and how we'd be better off if none of them had ever existed.

Only protest in ways that are guaranteed not to hurt anyone's feelings.

Finally, something that can unify that country.

And there are a ton of former military who are fine with it.
