POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

I'm pretty sure there are zip codes in Maine that are 100% white. I think the small town I grew up in had a handful of people that identified as Native American, and that was it until a mixed race family moved into town.

I would think Washington County had some during the 80's and 90's but decent amount of Hispanic people living there now. There are definitely some that are over 90%.

Regarding Dems in 2020 (waaayyy to early, but what else are we going to do before the Patriots season starts?) my preference for Lizzy Warren remains, but I have to say I was expecting her to emerge as more of a spokesperson for the Dem opposition. She really hasn't done that even from the vantage point of living in her state. Now perhaps she's taking it slow to focus on her re-election which is fine but I thought we'd get more of her making the rounds of the talk shows and calling press conferences to argue the Dem points. Right now oddly enough the most effective Dem politicians are both from NY  Schumer to my surprise has done a solid job running the Senate thus far and if he extracts some concessions in the debt ceiling negotiations (like funding ACA payments) then he's batting a thousand.

For governor's I see what Cuomo is up to, which is checking which way the winds are blowing and burnishing his liberal credentials. Whatever his motivations, he's passed same sex marriage through the legislature, banned fracking, and enacted a free state college tuition proposal. Check. Check. Check on a liberal's wish list and its an actual accomplishment.

IMHO the best job by any Dem governor today is Jerry Brown who has not only made California governable again but successfully run based on liberal principles. The dude's like 90, but he got the job done by any measure. However I believe he's done next year (term limits).

Is Warren even going to win re-election? There was a poll that came out maybe a couple months ago that showed she was struggling. I'm always skeptical of polls, but it was surprising just how bad her numbers were. Baker should help whatever republican runs against her.

If she ran against Trump she might have a shot just because of how much he is disliked, but I think in most years she would get smoked. There is something irritating about her tone. I think the pochohontas stuff would hurt her more nationally than it has in mass too.

The anti-gun stuff would kill Cuomo in a national election. That might play in New York City, but would really hurt him in a lot of swing states.

Who else do you have in mind? It's kind of surprising there aren't more dems available with a Schumer type background. Someone who has been around awhile but still young enough to run.

^^^^^^^^

I rest my case.

Yeah Jerry Brown redux has been great, but it would be hard to overlook his age. And the fact he ran so much when he was younger, if he tried again there'd be a bit of a Stassen feel to it.

Brown's a trillion years old; no thanks. He's done a fantastic job in CA but CA also has a Democratic supermajority so he doesn't have to deal with the derp.

Schumer's been great but for that reason I want to keep him in the Senate. Pelosi, for that matter, is great in the House. The usual blatherskites try to smear her but that's just garden variety GOP misogyny. Neither of them figure into a prez race as symbols regardless of what craven dopes like Newt and Hannity say.

Cuomo's problem is NY State politics is deeply corrupt and I'm sure there are landmines everywhere waiting to explode.

Warren is an ideal Veep to hold the nominee's feet to the Progressive Fire and also, since apparently we'll always have to worry about this, impeachment insurance.

I don't have a great candidate yet. My heart says Franken, my electability brain says somebody super safe like Mark Warner. Remember too that we're basically running out the clock until these f-cks die. We have one job.

Mark Warner? So you mean part III of the Gore, Kerry movie series?

Warner got elected as an executive in a purple state. But I take your point if you want to stretch it to include Tim Kaine.

Fine. Then you give me somebody. This is the problem with having lost so many down ballot races. Our bench is thin. The GOP bench is fat albeit with a lot of utterly clownish f-cksticks.

Re: POTUS 45.18 - Who Run Derpertown? McMasterBlaster Run Derpertown.

Consider the 2020 Dem race from the standpoint that Trump stays insane and unpopular to everyone but the same 62M knucks who vote GOP every election. That means a lot of Dems are going to look into the mirror and see a future Prez staring back at them. So, going by factions and past history, we'll have:

1) The LIBERAL!!!! Loud and proud occupying Bernie's space since he'll be 100 in 2020. Assuming Sanders does not run, Warren pretty much clears the field for this faction.

2) Moderate who runs left: That's Cuomo who will try to use a crushing re-election victory (which is going to be really important) to become all things to all people - liberal on social issues (guns, gays, environment, free college), tough on crime/Wall St (time as Attorney General) and has a bit of goodwill due to his father with the left. Problem is probably has some Wall St/corporate ties which will be used against him. Warner from Virginia would also fit the bill here.

3) Termed out governor with nothing else to do: This guy's either looking for a cabinet position or maybe a VP slot if they're from a key state. Hickenlooper from CO fits the bill, or even...

4) Westerner sick of all Easterners running for Prez: This could be Inslee of WA or one of the Senators from the West coast. Then there's...

5) Guy who thinks party isn't conservative enough: Could see a long shot bid from Montana's Gov. Or Casey from PA. But, we still haven't gotten to...

6) Non-white or non male or both candidate so debates don't look like GOP contest: Kamala Harris, Jaquim Castro, etc etc. Finally, you'll have....

7) Military Dude/Dudette: Always needed to answer "weak on terrorism" questions. Seth Moulton would slot in here but don't think he's going to go for it yet.

1. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) - No shot. She's female.
2. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) - Too old.
3. Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.)
4. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) - No shot. She's female. Interesting she's listed and Franken isn't. I think her running is why Franken won't.
5. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y) - No shot. She's female.
6. First lady Michelle Obama - No shot. She's female.
7. Gov. John Hickenlooper (Colo.)
8. Sen. Chris Murphy (Conn.)
9. Vice President Joe Biden - Too old.
10. Gov. Andrew Cuomo (N.Y.)
11. Sen.-elect Kamala Harris (Calif.) - No shot. She's female.
12. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton - No shot. She's female.
13. Former Gov. Deval Patrick (Mass.)
14. Sen. Tim Kaine (Va.) - Gore. Kerry all over again.
15. Oprah Winfrey - No shot. She's female.

Of the list my top pick would be Klobuchar if it were my choice then Gillibrand . And they'd both lose to Trump.

What about Marty Walsh? The unions would be happy and he has an everyman quality about him. He's actually fairly liberal too.

Seth Moulton is the textbook definition of all hat, no cattle. I'm very impressed. Has he done anything since he was elected?

Warren will only run if she sees nobody else run from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. She'll stay in the Senate if Franken, Klobuchar, Gillibrand, Biden (who won't), Harris, Feingold, Newsom, or somebody who runs hard on Single Payer is a major candidate.

I follow politics closely and I've literally never heard of Marty Walsh or Seth Moulton. That is not a good sign for someone with national aspirations.

Walsh is mayor of Boston. In a lot of ways he is more of an old fashioned liberal. I think his best chance would be in a field with at least half a dozen candidates. I'm sure he would win a general election against Trump.

Does Kanye's omission mean he's running as an R?

Another Trump supporter.

The Commenter says it all. The moment the other woman began to calmly take off her shoes, Little Miss White Trash needed to exfiltrate post haste.
