Usually we send our Secretary of State and other diplomats to help defuse the situation. The President would likely get involved, already. We don't that anymore because you and 60 million Americans had to Stigginit to the Libs. You voted to let China "have their way" by electing Trump.

That was the rationale, but it could have been used to vote for my neighbor's french bulldog too, with better results, probably. The dog does not shyt in his own bed or bite those who feed and shelter him.

You voted to stick it to The Establishment that you thought didn't care about you and wasn't doing enough to help people like you, in similar situations. And now you have a government that can't help you even if it wanted to, because half the positions in it remain unfilled, and the people in the filled positions either lack the skills and experience to fulfill the jobs they're tasked with, or they're simply too incompetent to do so. Further, rather than caring to try to help you, the policies they are trying to implement actually make your life worse. Rather than just not caring, they are actively trying to screw you over.

But feel proud. You really stuck it to that Establishment. You really showed them.

By the time I arrived the first eighth of Trump’s first term was nearly complete, and his administration was still, largely, missing. He hadn’t nominated anyone to serve as head of the Patent Office, for instance, or to run FEMA. There was no Trump candidate to head the T.S.A., or anyone to run the Centers for Disease Control. The 2020 national census will be a massive undertaking for which there is not a moment to lose and yet there’s no Trump appointee in place to run it. “The actual government has not really taken over,” says Max Stier. “It’s kindergarten soccer. Everyone is on the ball. No one is at their positions. But I doubt Trump sees the reality. Everywhere he goes everything is going to be hunky-dory and nice. No one gives him the bad news.”

As for "what do you want the US to do?".....do we HAVE to stick our nose in every little dispute that doesn't directly involve us? It's part of the reason the world hates us (pre-Trump, even). Now, I'm not necessarily saying "hands off" to EVERYTHING, given that we decided we were going to police the world, so to speak; keep an eye on things, but we don't have to run in and play mommy for every little dispute.

We are not talking getting our military involved, just diplomats. Not sure how that can be considererf "rushing" in. This is making sure the two biggest countries in the world don't start a war.

Funny how president Obama was weak when confronting Syria and isis. Which are a minescle threat compared to just one of the countries involved. Dump, then, is less than weak, then.

The level of both disengagement and lack of qualifications in the White House is beginning to seem very frightening. On the one hand, I had hoped for a similar level of incompetence because that would aid in preventing trump from accomplishing the worst of his ideas, but on the other hand the world sometimes needs decisive and visionary leadership, and the chances that trump can provide that are about as good as my chances of catching Clayton Kershaw's next no-hitter.

One quibble: and this is such a widespread misunderstanding that I think getting past it has become critical to solving our poisonous partisanship. No significant number of conservatives think the government wasn't doing enough to help them. They think the government does way too much. They want less help. Less regulation. Less guidance. Less thought policing. Less security. Less roads, schools, museums, parks. Less government.
