POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

Unfortunately cemented by Trump declining to participate at all in PTA and Paris Accord. They have happily stepped in to fill the void.

IMHO is was definitely smarter but whether you are dealing with people who aren't as smart as you or not if they won't participate in governing bad stuff happens. The way this country was set up to work relied on at least some balance of power. When all sides don't participate equally it falls down.

I did not agree with everything Obama did internationally but I have to disagree with the last statement. Having Congress block anything he tried included his Foreign Policy initiatives. Tough to negotiate anything when Congress is openly inviting foreign dignitaries giving a message directly opposed to what the President of the country is saying and without trying to engage him in debate. They were frequently and loudly vocal of their disdain for his foreign policy, effective in undermining him. Despite that he did restore a sense of respect that was lost when Bush et al snubbed various countries.

THe difference with this President is he has no clear policy and his Press Secretary has said the Ambassadors are free to tweet what they want.

And to open a can of worms- if we can leave out the paranoia of people stealing your guns (which was a brilliant, well crafted plan from the manufacturers to make people buy more guns) what would you consider reasonable policy. I came from a military family. We had guns in the house my whole childhood. My Dad was a stickler for proper safety and care. Before I could shoot I needed to be able to take a gun down, clean it and put it together. My Dad is a lifelong NRA member (I think). I remember when the focus of the NRA was safety, education and organizing events.

In all the frenzy of 'they might take my gun!!!1!11!1!! we seem to have lost respect for the weapon and the potential danger. How would you address the folks who are clueless, buy a toy with no idea of safety or even how it works? In the craze to 'protect rights' we seem to have lost sight of responsibility. I worked pediatrics and we asked about guns in house to make sure the parents knew basic safety. You can't believe how many of them had never thought about safety- the gun loaded in an accessible place, but never checked on. [ducks- I know you are all going to virtually slap me silly but I really want to know the answer]

I think the best thing we could do is include gun safety education with everything else kids learn. It seems to me that people who are exposed to guns when they are young are much more responsible with them than those who are never around them until they are older. The NRA still does a lot of good work along the lines of gun safety. I've said this before, but in a lot of ways the NRA is a counterweight to the anti-gun groups. As they have progressively gotten more extreme so has the NRA.

Gun violence has actually gone way down in the last 20 years and if you're a regular, decent person it is one of the last things you need to worry about. With that being said, there should be more done around domestic violence and guns. The vast majority of 'innocent' gun victims are due to domestic violence.

The President has a very clear policy. It's called pro-America. Not like the anti-American and anti-freedom whiners I keep reading about here.

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

The President has a very clear policy. It's called pro-America.

Reporter #1: Mr. President, what is the administration's position on NATO's role in dealing with Russia's activities in the Donbas region in the Ukraine and other areas around the Black Sea?

Child in Chief: Let me be very clear. We are Pro America.

Reporter #2: Mr. President, how does the Administration intend to handle Mr. Erdogan's aggressive efforts to consolidate power in his office, impose severe limitations on the press, particularly outlets critical of his policies, and his continued military opposition to Kurdish elements who are considered allies to the United States in the war against ISIS?

Child in Chief: Let me be very clear. We are Pro America.

Reporter #3: Mr. President, what is the administration's position on Israel's continued approval of settlements in the West Bank?

Child in Chief: Let me be very clear. We are Pro America.

Reporter #4 Mr. President, how can you explain to the people in America who are living paycheck to paycheck that you refuse to raise taxes on the top 1% and, at the same time, plan to cut medicaid benefits to the poor?

Child in Chief: Define America

Kill me for replying but..............

How it is pro-American to cede American leadership on the world stage to Russia and China?

Re: POTUS 45.13 - CNN is still Fake News

Don't tell that to his Ambassadors, his Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense. He has contradicted all of them after telling them they were OK America must be schizophrenic because every time we turn around we need something different. Sometimes multiple times a day. (Do I get a gold star for not quoting you know who?)

Agree on the safety. I would like very much to have it a requirement to buy/have a license, just like Driver's Ed.

I must not be exposed to the same media you are. The NRA used to have my respect but they have sold out to the gun manufacturers and the sum of my exposure to them lately has been inflammatory, slippery slope arguments or dismissing legitimate concerns. Just like the argument re Trump- If they would be reasonable and advocate for safety requirements they would have a lot more legitimacy. The only exposure I have to them is dismissive responses to people's angst and trowing their wt around politically if anyone tries to propose any intelligent response to the issues of safety (or uses the word gun in a sentence that doesn't promote ownership- sarcasm meter high).

They seem to be into promotion of everyone needing/having a gun- or at least a subset of them are. The stuff about self protection is horse feathers- statistically it doesn't hold up. The inflammatory stuff goes a long way toward scaring people into believing they need a gun or buying them in case they were to not be able to later. Listened to a great piece a few months ago on a guy who had written about the history of the NRA- how it started up to where it is today. Fascinating. They used to advocate much of what they are vehemently opposed to now. I remember some of it.

I am curious about your view that the NRA has become more extreme in the face of the anti-gun groups. I only see the anti-gun folk during times they are responding to yet another mass shooting/ shooting that is particularly tragic. I haven't seen a call for no guns. I have seen a plethora of pleading for requiring passing a test to own/carry and screening for safety- things like mental illness, history of domestic violence or other triggers that increase the likelihood for bad outcome. This could be because we have had fairly strict gun laws where I am. I did have patients trying to con me into giving them clearance for mental health issues when they first were enforced but not recently. Honestly the laws we have don't seem to impede anyone from obtaining a gun. The guys in my neighborhood all own guns. They are always blathering on about what potentially could happen but not one story/ bit of anecdotal evidence that it actually happened. Not even people they distantly know.

You know what is funny...crackpots like Flaggy and Potzker Lovers like Drew talk about our Foreign Policy blunders. Funny how the rest of the world (outside of you know...our enemies) seemed to love Obama for the most part and hated both W and The Czar Urea. I am sure it is just a coincidence that the only people who think Obama was horrible all vote for the same party. I am sure it is also a coincidence they are White, Gun-toting conspiracy freaks. (they gunna take our GUNZ!!1!!)

When playing international poker you don't want Teddy KGB or Mike McDermott across from you at the table. You want Worm.

BHO thought he was smart. IMO he was getting played.

I wasn't aware Israel is now an enemy.

The rest of the world loved Obama because he was a soft touch. The 'deal' he made with Australia to take 1,000 people they didn't want is an excellent example of that.

Israel isn't. Bibi is a farktard, however. He needs a strong lesson in the fact that they need us more than we need them.

And more to the point, Palestine isn't an enemy of the US, either. So when Israel continues to fark them over, they shouldn't expect us to support them unconditionally.

Well, good thing your opinion means jack. Because if you thought Obama was getting played, I'd hate to see what you think is happening with Trump.

He wasn't, necessarily. The American system of politics was. Super basic layout:
1. Obama gets elected, most are all happy (out with W!)
2. As Obama's run is ending, Putin takes Crimea
3. The "depolorables" are getting riled up
4. Here comes Trump, making a run
5. Putin sees an opportunity
6. Influences enough to get Trump elected
7. American system of politics is in chaos right now, as Putin wants it

Trump is not the last piece to be moved, I guarantee it. Putin is still thinking a couple years ahead.......

Nobody's called yet. BHO had 8 years at the table. tD has had 7 months.

The last President who understood how the game was played on January 20 was Bush41. Everyone else has watched poker shows or played nickle dime quarter poker at Eddie's house before going to the World Championships.

Some lose their shirts, some come out around even. Very few get the bracelet.

This is the most ignorant post I've read on understanding of foreign policy.
