Gang

If you were 25 in 1968, you're in your 70s now. I don't think there are too many 70 year olds in the political threads

I was 12/13 and it was a very weird year.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

No, they're moving to One America, or getting disinformation from Breitbart, Mark Dice, RedState, Alex Jones, Conservative Treehouse, Gateway Pundit, etc. No need for TV, or even radio programs anymore if you want to live in a safe space with fellow hive-minds. That exists on the far left too, but in much smaller numbers.

Turns out I get One America. Tuning in I caught a preview of their "Who Killed Seth Rich?" story that ended with a tie-in to the DNC. Then their "commercial break" was a two minute video about how Russia has always been a willing ally except for those pesky Soviet Union times, ignoring that they were the USSR during WWII.

Good lord they just ran another piece about how basically any government workers means communism. This feels like The Onion with how over the top it is.

Apparently red lights from the White House is a news story. I have no idea why. I really don't.

Maybe it's Spicy, imprisoned in the Lincoln Bedroom, trying to signal for help.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

Hearing back channel communication setup is completely normal. Nothing to see here.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

So, the guy who took a **** all over gold star families is now going to honor them? Irony has no bounds.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

Using foreign equipment to bypass American security agencies is not.

Do we know that? Perhaps it's more common than we think but other administrations simply weren't as inept as Trump and the Cronies.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

I also hear involving foreign banking in the secret communications is normal and above board.

The only thing we're missing since WW II is the national shock of leaders being assassinated. A few months ago I though the tumult of the 1960s was worse but I don't know about that anymore. The nation is far more polarized now, we're losing ground instead of making inroads against poverty, racism, disease, workplace struggles. And as horrible a world-wide catastrophe that WWII was, at least there was some measure of unity among most of the people's of the nation. Yes, minorities were still being denied a good part of the American Dream, but even then it seemed like we were still pulling together in a time of crisis. The country right now is coming apart at the seams.

I have a friend who was a senior at Kent State in 1970, when I was a senior at BC. A few years ago he put his memories together on Facebook. His reality was different from my perception 800 miles away. My perception is vastly different from someone who read about it 45 years after the fact.

I'm not saying it's above board. I'm wondering if Cpt. Inept just can't do what others have done and kept from us.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

The Clown in Chief tweeted this:

"I would like to wish everyone, including all haters and losers (of which, sadly, there are many) a truly happy and enjoyable Memorial Day!"

Now leaving out the fact that he called out the haters for no reason...would someone explain to this loser what Memorial Day actually means? You dont wish someone a "Happy Memorial Day" in fact veterans will get mad if they hear you say that. Memorial Day is about remembering the fallen, it is a solemn occasion. (in which you can get great deals on cars and mattresses!) Wishing people a Happy Memorial Day is like wishing someone Happy Anniversary of your wife dying...thankfully he didnt salute while holding a coffee cup or the Right might have pretended to care.

Oh and btw it doesnt matter whether back channels such as these are normal or not. Many things are normal and still frowned upon or illegal. I am guessing Nixon isnt the only President to cover something up. The difference is that he got caught while others didnt. Just cause the car in front of you was nailed for speeding and you werent doesnt make your speeding ok. This is first day Logic stuff. People need to stop focusing on the technicalities and whether "others did it" and focus on the fact that they were caught which is doubly bad.

And sometimes when we are right in the middle of it our emotions prevent us from seeing what it all really means in the grand scheme. Its why historians for generations have believed no accurate or completely fair assessment of a president can be done in contemporary times or even in the first few years afterwards. Decades after they are out of office we are still learning more about how presidents affected the nation and the world. Living an event is certainly a different (and certainly a more visceral) way of experiencing it than reading about it 45 days or 45 years later. It's also true that people understandably sometimes think the time they came of age has some deeper meaning and effect on the world simply because THEY were shaped by things that happened to them. More American historians today will say that the events leading up to the Civil War and the war itself were the most momentous occasion in our country's lifetime, but of course none of them were alive for it.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

That tweet was from last year, Handy. Oh, and from the @POTUS account he* finally tweeted about the stabbing in Portland.

*well, one of his staffers did. No way he wrote that. It's not in his voice.

Also, Ivanka tweeted out a recipe for champagne popsicles for celebrating Memorial Day. The replies to that tweet are gold.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

I think the haters and losers tweet is from 2015. But Ivanka did tweet out a recipe today for champagne popsicles.
Nothing like champagne popsicles to remind you of those who have served and died.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

I don't think he actually tweeted that. That just looks like someone took his 9/11 tweet from a few years back and replaced it with Memorial Day.

I've been fighting this battle for years. We celebrate Independence Day and Veteran's Day. We commemorate Memorial Day. But we also live in a world where the vast majority of people think we're supporting the troops as long as we say "I support the troops" or we all stand and cheer during the first media timeout of the second period when our home team trots out a local (or not so local) veteran for us to appreciate. My last straw as a NASCAR fan came a few years ago when the talking heads on FOX completely lost sight of the meaning of this holiday during a pre-race telecast and kept wishing everyone a "happy Memorial Day" and literally one of the talking heads repeated over and over "I want to wish all the veterans out there a happy memorial day and thank you for your service."
