POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

You mean he brought it back. It was here before.

Yes. But that doesn't matter. The old light rail system, privately owned and managed, left the area in 1954 as the company shifted to buses that were more cost efficient and allowed for greater versatility to change lines with population demands.

Regardless, it had been gone for over 40 years before Ventura signed into law what would become the Blue Line (slow)LRT route.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

What was the Ventura scandal? I knew he was an idiot but my impression was he was an honest idiot who tried hard to do the right thing but was incompetent and in over his head.

The R's and D's also didn't want to work with him, because he wasn't "one of them," so no, many things didn't get done.

I thought Ventura was a good governor. *shrug*

I played in a golf league with a guy who Ventura appointed to be a state court judge. This guy was one of three candidates who had been nominated to interview with the Governor, who would then choose the appointee.

This guy told us that he walked into Ventura's office for the interview and shook the Governor's hand. Ventura then asked him one question, and the interview was over. The question? "If there was one place you could go, where would it be?"

That told me all I needed to know about how Jesse Ventura operated.

Maybe they didn't work with him because he was insane? The most successful and popular Maine governor in my memory was independent Angus King. He was able to work with both sides of the aisle (worked with the D's heavily on green energy, environmental protection, etc; worked with the R's on more 'business friendly' initiatives). He's one of our Senators now, and the righties in Maine complain that he is just a Democrat but plays the independent card for electoral benefit . the truth is the R's have gone off the deep end and he has very little he can work with them on now.

I remember listening to Ventura say live on the radio that the only reason he signed into law the LRT was due to 494 (lower half of the 1-94 byway around the Twin Cities) being too busy for him to drive his Porsche freely down the highway. Because a rail system going from the MSP Airport to downtown Mpls was going to solve that how, exactly? If in doubt, look at a road map.

Even if he was trying to give the glib response, anybody who had been following him knows there was more than just a kernel of truth to his statement.

IMO, Ventura wasn't nutso until after he left office. Then, no question he was off his rocker.

Yes, you said conservative, but "need(ing) to vote straight (D)" is also party loyalty. How about vote for the candidate him/herself, and not the letter next to their name?

When the letter next to the name tells you how they'll vote on 95% of controversial issues, why shouldn't you use that (unless your pet issue falls in that 5%)?

I don't have an ounce of party loyalty. I'm just anti-Trumpism until its over.
(my only party affiliation is anti-poison)

Just saying that even bringing that up in the same thought is ridiculous.

How so? The President of the United States has called attention to Kathy Griffin yet is silent on the Portland violence. In fact he's been silent on all violence in the United States (exception Chicago) that isn't Muslim extremism. He's sending a clear signal that Muslim bad, white guy good.

Re: POTUS 45.10 - Stage Two in Perpetuity

What Kathy Griffin did is much worse. Ask any Republican, they'll tell you.

So ho-hum, she made a self-portrait in reds and showed it off.

Um, what?
You mean ... wha'?
That was supposed to be ...

Hadn't noticed the resemblance before. ;)
