We cannot sit and wait for our norms to save us. We must save our norms.

In a scathing letter issued late Monday, the Office of Government Ethics rejected a request from the Office of Management and Budget that OGE suspend its request that federal agencies turn over copies of ethics waivers granted to former lobbyists hired under the Trump administraion.

“The unusual nature of your letter highlights OGE’s responsibility to lead the executive branch ethics program with independence, free from political pressure. Accordingly, OGE declines your request to suspend its ethics inquiry and reiterates its expectation that agencies will fully comply with its directive by June 1, 2017. Public confidence in the integrity of government decisionmaking [sic] demands no less,” OGE Director Walter Shaub Jr. wrote in a letter to OMB Director Mick Mulvaney.

Mulvaney had asked Shaub to suspend his directive to agencies to disclose the ethics waivers, questioning whether OGE had the legal authority to demand the documents.

Normally I agree (it is why I never will join that Party) with that but if this was the normal Dem Party they would have buckled to Trump on his BS Wall Budget fiasco. They have held his feet to the fire on every piece of crap he has tried.

They are more motivated...and watching Trump and the GOP Congress basically cancel everything Obama did (then often doing the same thing just branded differently cause that is what a dick would do) will make them push even harder.

Of course if I am wrong then lord knows what clown the GOP will put up...probably one of those losers from your state :p

It's true. Remember, the 80s and 90s Dems bent and broke so often because they had to accommodate all the Dixiecrats and blue dogs among them. Those parasites have all been burned off now. The Democrats are now a fiercely liberal party with aged, weak, cowardly leadership, in search of a strong, young, liberal leader. When they find him or her they will roar like the GOP in the 80s and sweep away the accumulated garbage of the last 37 years.

Lost in all this BS is that Trump now plans to cut $1.7 trillion much of it from Food Stamps and Medicaid. (it was brought up earlier but his idiocy overshadows it) And yes there is a tweet that totally goes against this from a year ago:

"I was the first and only GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Huckabee copied me."

Oh and he is cutting education too. But hey border security is getting more money! So we may be stupid, unemployed and have no way to get food but at least none of those murdering raping Mexicans can come here and steal our jerbs!!!1!!

All of which is not as much an indictment of Trump as it is of those who voted for him and continue to support him, actively or passively. He's just running the con.

Not necessarily. Cruz and Paul want to redefine reconciliation to let them pass the budget on simple majority. And a budget that shreds Medicaid and SNAP while blowing up the military bubble even larger is a budget every elected Republican can get behind now.

You guys may just finally get your Gilded Age hellscape. Hope you like it.
