Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

Potsdam forward Anthony Proteau on April 3rd after a tough battle with cancer. Predeceased by his Mom in Jan/2010. A beautiful, charming, witty, gentle young man.
An explosive skater, great hands with a quick release. The top scorer in Quebec at Bantam AA making Val D'or of the Q at 16 but choosing school and battling back from major spinal surgery.
So many memories from Novice to the Chowder Cup....tournaments, road trips to God knows where Quebec....Hundreds of hours of training and shinny at Rapid....so much laughter.
Summer of 08 watching you all in my living room laughing and talking trash everynight before going out to burn down the Montreal clubs. Beautiful.
Go with God

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

That's horrible :o :(

Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends...

I saw him play last season too..he was a heck of a player.

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

He will be missed by all of those who had the pleasure to know him at Potsdam. Such a sad story for a remarkable young man. I know I won't ever forget him, especially some of the laughs we shared over the past 2 years.
RIP Proteau...we'll miss ya buddy. :(

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

Sorry to hear about this news. God rest ye weary head, good sir. Way too young for him to go. Rest in peace Anthony Proteau.

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

So sad to hear this kind of news. One expects college athletes to be healthy and indestructible, then something like this happens.... It sould remind all of us how fragile life really is.

My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. May you receive the peace and strength that will help you to carry on through difficult times.

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

It is one of saddest moments in the Bears history. However it was great this past winter, to welcome him back and announce his name, " #21 Anthony Proteau".
God love ya kid. You will always be remembered and never forgotten. :(

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

Antony could always score...deadly on the PP...here are his stats from the Quebec Jr AAA ( Jr A in the rest of Canada ) league. His last team was St Jerome, a perennial powerhouse. Shawn Baker from Norwich was a teammate.

Kudos to Antony's ex teammates from Montreal...with him till the end. Especially ex Maine Black Bear Kief Orsini. He stepped up.

At first I was not sure if this was real, however it appears to be very real, and it is one of the saddest things that I have seen in a long time. Is there anything from the school or more info? As bad as I feel I want to know more, it seems that he played last year then he found out and had been home, hospital? Was he in school this year at all?

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

Antony was on the ice as recent as 4 weeks ago here in Montreal when he came home from Potsdam for spring break. He never went back.

Re: Potsdam Bears/ AP RIP

Awful. Way too young. :(

I hope the team does something like retire his jersey or something. Or set up a fund of some kind.

As an alumnus I hope they do.
