Possible Oswego Outdoor game?

The Syracuse Crunch and Binghamton Senators are playing an outdoor game at the NY State Fairgrounds on January 30th.

That's the Plattsburgh/Potsdam home weekend for the Lakers.

For the NHL winter classic games they usually like getting "filler" games so the outdoor rink gets a little bit more use than just the one NHL game on it.

Why not have the Oswego/Potsdam game down there on Friday night?

It'd be great exposure for Oswego and the college game and I'm sure that the event organizers would love to add more games to schedule to try and get some more money out of the event.

Thoughts? Would this even be possible or is there a SUNYAC rule stating the game MUST be at Oswego's home rink or something like that?

Secondly, would people actually attend? Oswego gets 1000 students to their home games night in and night out. However, most of them are there to be seen rather than watch the game. Would they make the 40 minute trip down 481 to the game?

I'm thinking Oswego would need to organize some sort of mass transportation for the students if they indeed did end up doing this and wanted a strong student attendance there.

EDIT: The game is actually February 20th. Cancel that. Oswego is at Geneseo that day...

Major suckage. I was really getting excited about the prospects of this.

It wouldn't make sense for Oswego to do this. They'd give up home field advantage, be playing on imperfect ice, and probably have far fewer fans in attendance than at home.

The first obligation to the staff is to the team and doing what they can to make it as successful as possible. While it might be good exposure for the college game, that's secondary to the benefit of the team.

Now if you wanted to have a tournament outdoors hosted by a school, or sponsored by a company wanting to put it om, that might possibly be feasible. But not a conference game, especially a big one.

Can we say Lake Effect snowstorm?

Keep playing indoors. The weather is way too fickle there.

Like Buffalo is any better?? lol

Plus, just make sure its NOT the Plattsburgh game...we don't need certain people making more excuses...

Re: Possible Oswego Outdoor game?

All one has to do is put a snow making machine in Romney. I saw many games there in the mid 80's. On a really cold night it felt colder in Romney that outside due to the humidy. Or just knock down the ends. You would still have a fan base and a snowball or two just like when the ZOO crew was alive and well. Wouldn't that sit well with the AD and university president. They just might end up taking a snowball for the other team, ohh to bad.

Just what we'd need - dumbass Oswego students getting the Lakers penalized for throwing snowballs. Bagels, snowballs... When does it end?

Re: Possible Oswego Outdoor game?

Sounds to me like some are searching to find some way for Oswego to beat Plattsburgh - in Oswego;) Though I still think the could move the Primelink to Feburary and play in a bay on Lake Champlain -one year the NY side, the VT side the next:p
