Re: Poll: if Shannon Miller was to make a career change

Who'd ever go fishing in Calgary?

Ummmm. People from all over the world...

The Bow River, just downstream of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is one of the top three trout streams in the world, harboring the most consistently large river run trout you will ever catch. The Upper Bow River near Banff and Canmore is a pristine, wild, untouched fishery with cold, fast moving, gin clear water. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world to catch Brown Trout. Southern Alberta is also home to some of the most breathtaking creeks and rivers to walk and wade and fish for both Cutthroat Trout and Bull Trout.

You have to get out more. Try some Fly Fishing instead of trolling.:)

Who knew? I've actually been to every province and every city of significant size in Canada, as well as most US states. On my various trips to Calgary all I ever saw was nondescript buildings and barren land with everything really spread out...and virtually no trees or water to speak of. I guess I just didn't venture far enough out of the city.

When I think of fishing, I think of either BC....or Northern Ontario. My grandma taught me to troll up there as a little kid ;), in summer we'd fish every day for pike, pickerel, muskie, trout, bass.

I confess Calgary was probably my second least favourite place in the country based on the above. But Edmonton actually takes the bottom prize by far, as it is so freakin cold as to be completely uninhabitable IMHO....people there have to leave their cars running in parking lots in the winter or they won't start again.

The most outstanding place in Canada for me is Quebec City, and the drive from there along the St. Lawrence to Tadoussac for whale watching truly rivals the Pacific Coast Highway for spectacular natural beauty. Everyone should put that drive on their bucket list.

Actualy the Bow River runs right through Calgary and I only have to walk about 10 city blocks to get to some of the best angling in the world.

I've never met anybody from Toronto that say's they like Calgary unless they have moved here, and plenty have...then they seem to love it.

The best time to visit is during the Calgary Stampede...most of the locals take there holidays and get out of Dodge while the visitors roll in for what we call "10 Days of Bad Music." :)

I came close to going out to the Stampede once. :o

I've had two former employees move there over the years. Actually, neither liked it. One met her husband though shortly after going, but then they left for BC ASAP.
Funny story about the other one--she lived in a long distance relationship with her husband for at least 2 years because he was working in Edmonton and there was no way in the world she'd live there. Then he managed a transfer to Calgary, so she quit her job here to join him. She couldn't take it. Within a year and a half, she asked for her old job back, and they both hightailed it back to Toronto where he was final able to get work.

Easy Seymore, talk like that will get your transfer payments discontinued and the taps turned off on oil supply.:)

Isn't all your oil being syphoned off by the Chinese and Americans??? We're "going green" here in Ontario...that's just a few shades short of black!! Politicians are all morons!  (Just one notch below lawyers.)

Think thats more a function of infrastructure...TO has two routes to downtown....Gardiner Expressway and the 401. (3 if you count the 407). LA has about 20 freeways the size of 401.

I avoid both like an EC purple jersey!!

Now Seymore don't be like that.

C'mon bring that EC thread back up to the top...:)

Banff is kinda nice. They have trees and water.
