It's just a jump to left...
And a step to the right...
Put your hands on your hips...
And pull your knees in tight...

Re: Poll: if Shannon Miller was to make a career change

...she could do very well as an impersonator of who?:

Hmmm...well, I'm not sure given her coaching record:

1992 Gold medal, Women's World Championship (Canada)
1994 Gold medal, Women's World Championship (Canada)
1995 Gold medal, Pacific Rim Championship (Canada)
1996 Gold medal, Pacific Rim Championsihp (Canada)
1997 Gold medal, Women's World Championship (Canada)
1998 Olympic silver medal (Canada)
2000 WCHA Coach of the Year
2003 WCHA Coach of the Year
2003 AHCA Coach of the Year
Five NCAA championship titles
Five WCHA championship titles
11 Frozen Four wins
291 WCHA wins

But hey, she dresses funny. I guess that matters.

glad someone else is as iffy about this poll coming out the day her team wins the NCAA championship too  I'm sure that was CBS's goal in broadcasting the game...

It was just in reference to her sequin jacket she was wearing. I don't think its intended to be mean...just a little funny.

Re: Poll: if Shannon Miller was to make a career change

obvously this is all in fun...any of us would love to have a resume like hers in our own fields, however you have to recognize that she is an island as to herself!! Being from a small NE state, I have no idea how her fellow staff members think of her, but why would someone dress like that for a game that was to be nationally televised? I don't think that her Admin people will be quick to invite her to the next faculty dance.......

Her fellow staff members are more concerned with results, not wardrobes. We don't have a Best Dressed Coach award in the trophy case, but we do have national championship trophies. I'm guessing the staff's okay with that.

Re: Poll: if Shannon Miller was to make a career change

Have any of you considered that she wore that to garner the very reaction you are providing her?

That is EXACTLY what I was going to say!!

If she wore an unfortunate paisley dress but she thought it was a good choice, then I would agree, the poll would be in bad taste.

But she wore SEQUINS on a blazer? Really? Of course she was trying to get people going.

Which is why I chose "This is no impersonation. They are one and the same"

Yes, I did consider that very thing. Not that I accept you implying as much as clear evidence to her purpose. Nor would I doubt the attention to herself motivation either. What bearing would that motivation have upon the poll anyway?

I voted Liberace...strong resemblance.

I suppose this truly insignificant thread will be seen as some huge, unjustified attack on Shannon Miller.

My mother still makes fun of the way I dress.

A photo snagged from the UMD website may suggest a different entertainer. :D (Scroll about half way down)

Re: Poll: if Shannon Miller was to make a career change

did anyone ever think that maybe her and the players made a bet..if they got to the big game she had to wear something like that.. just a thought.

and if they didn't who cares what she wore it had nothing to do with how the players played the game or the results of the game.

Most definitely.

Listen, anyone would have to envy the kind of results she's achieved. They speak for themselves. She's in a league of her own. This is not intended to be an attack on her at all. I was actually quite impressed as well in watching the game how loose she remained throughout, continuing to crack smiles and jokes with her players after successive overtime periods.

I gotta think also that anyone who would choose to wear what she was wearing, on national TV no less, really couldn't give 2 hoots about what anyone else thinks about her fashion choices. So I doubt any of this would result in a blow to her personal self-esteem. I would hope she too might think this was all in good fun, rather than some new attempt to persecute her.

Congrats on another national championship. Given hockey superstition and all, I guess this might become a regular game day outfit now....maybe every other coach needs to get one just like it.

Re: Poll: if Shannon Miller was to make a career change

Oh for the love of....... What is the point of this? Truly, after this weekend of superb hockey, your focus is on what Shannon was WEARING?! I know this is all (I hope to god) tongue-in-cheek, but seriously, you couldn't come up with something better?

By the way, hats off to Cornell.... AND WAY TO GO, BULLDOGS!!!!
