Plattsburgh vs Morrisville

Re: Plattsburgh vs Morrisville

I am not going to get on you about writing your blog. Freedom of expression. If that's what you like to do, fair. I don't have to read if I don't want to.

Which I haven't. I didn't read what you wrote before you "cleaned it up," but it sounded pretty intense. I just agree with Norm. Self-respect should be the reason why you cleaned up that blog. Calling college students who are trying to work hard on the ice to win games names is a little much.

I will agree with you here in part, however...when dirtbags like Brian Avery and Nick Pettriello would rather hack, slash, fight, and cross check instead of trying to "work hard", sorry but they don't deserve a hand shake and ra ra ra go team go. I applaud hard workers, body bangers, and guys who go to work in the corners.....but their is a difference between those and the ones I mentioned above. Certain players are **** bags, like it or not. Granted I was not there to see the Ponies in action, but in talking with some fans I've been told the game was pretty intense and heated. Morrissville has always played clean, tough, and hard since they've started....well at least for a team that's consistantly been beat up on.

I agree, but with the provision that when you call a player out for a dirty play, explain why you are calling them out, analyze it, then move on; don't start throwing out expletives. It just lessens credibility.

I read the cleaned up version, and I will agree with another poster...no mention of Leis? Leis obviously kept the Cardinals in the game. I know you have your issues with him (only ice he should see is in his glass"), but it is what it is. Besides, having high hopes is a good team, but you have to see this team for what it is, not what you want it to be. A young team that is growing.

I hope you keep writing. I think you will, and I think this week was a learning experience for you.

Thanks for the great feedback! I would agree about calling folks out when they are trying to work hard - the handful I referenced spent a great deal of their ice time doing anything but that. But yeah, it could have been a bad night all the way around.

I would agree Leis came up huge when he needed to. I think the issue I have with him in particular is that he tends to let a lot of rebounds go and completely leave the net wide open. It may be a preference thing, but I would rather see a goalie either control the rebound or stop the puck - not launch it off who knows where and hope that the other team doesn't have someone waiting (or several bodies) on the side with the wide open net.

Thanks for the thoughts to keep on writing; much appreciated. Like anything, it's always a work in progress.

Good point. I would say the reason I referenced them originally was for a lot of nonsense after the play was dead. Usually Morrisville is a very clean and solid team (in fact I used to regard them as representing student athletics respectfully), but the crew of monkeys on the ice this last time has shown that clearly is not the case.

There is no need to follow folks to the bench (I watched that happen twice) and nearly miss your own bench to holler over something that was hardly a problem. Nor is there a need to just play dirty and get away with holding and dirty punches. Hopefully they'll learn something from the video replay of the game - and either they'll get back to playing hockey or get knocked around the rink next time they're in Plattsburgh.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Morrisville

That's funny coming from the biggest blowhard on the board.

Having fun (i.e. being a blowhard) is fine, so long as you don't have to resort to the societies generally unacceptable extremes of vulgarity. I am an adamant believer that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me", that said, the use of vulgar profanity does nothing more than belittle oneself.

Well, you're calling out the student-athletes here, but it doesn't all add up... last I checked, the student-athlete didn't have ANY control over what they "got away with"

I get your point, but I have to point this out :D

Re: Plattsburgh vs Morrisville

there was a rep from "fair-play" at the rink all day saturday. they changed out the control board multiple times trying to correct the problem, but to no avail. not sure what the next step is, but if I were Plattsburgh, I'd be telling them to come get their boards and refund the money so we can get ones that work.

I have to agree with this. I'm no engineer, but when the second and third control board screw up, is there any point to attaching a fourth one? They also tried changing the power source for the control board to no avail. I'm not sure what the next step is, but Saturday was a disaster. The rep had the board doing things it hadn't even done before he got here!

I heard a ton of excuses (whether any of them were legitimate or just rumor I have no idea), but not many suggestions to fix it. I'm hoping they have a solution before the men host the SUNY semi-finals on February 27th....
