Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey

Seriously? You're questioning the judgement of a coach with a lifetime record of 326-44-22 and five national titles? I doubt anyone is going to force him to do anything in regards to running his program on the ice...

Don't be so silly. Some of us are just voicing a very valid and very legitimate hockey concern in the event his starting goalie should get injured, have a prolonged illness, or some other non-hockey related situation should arise unexpectedly. If anything like that happens the team will suffer the consequences. It would be a shame for a championship level team to get derailed for no good reason such as a simple lack of personnel. It has nothing to do with his ability as a coach or his record. We all respect his history there. You can bet this is a concern he has already thought about long ago. There is a definite risk involved in only having 2 goalies and he is very aware of it. The good news is RIT is not in that conference anymore which greatly reduces the risk of a player running his starting goalie.

whoa....easy there @hole. and yes, you DO have a 'dog in the fight'...nobody posts S like that unless they do....and nice try at a 'diversion'....lol D1 team...and 'out west' to boot. oh, you are just priceless....I'd say ur name now, but why out u like that. p.s. u and the Mrs can keep the presents...u will be needing them soon enough when that D1 transfer shows up and Suzzie sits. lol

So you're saying deadend65 is the backup goalie's dad? Makes sense. He's certainly a big deadend! What a lucky girl she is.

Re: Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey

BINGO!..."Circle gets the Square!" and...."What is-- crazy parent for $500, Alex"

Mystery solved....looked at the boxscore from the Castleton game...backup goalie started....2 goals against and 1 save. Yep, with stats like that, clearly there is no need for any goalie transfer, right dad? I know, you're out west and D1 and all, but for some reason you "follow" the Cards. lol

Spwood or Scott, what is the latest? Who's transferring to Platty? Anyone departing?

I have no inside information, and that sort of thing doesn't make news around here so right now, I've heard and seen nothing. Kevin looked pretty relaxed when I saw him around the hallways a couple weekends ago...

I haven't seen or heard anything. Generally we don't find out about people coming or going until they're on the roster. Most of the midseason departures I've seen are usually a player from Western US or Canada who isn't getting ice time [Abby Constant-Bercier, Kayla Colang] and no one fits that bill on this roster so I'd be surprised to see anyone leave.

In terms of departures I think the most damaging one recently was Megan Delay not returning after her freshman year (I think she went to a CIS school). Only 11 points on the stat sheet but I really liked her defense from what I saw on video and one of the most impressive plays I saw when I was up for championship weekend was her racing back on defense to stop a River Falls shot. Not only was it fast it was so graceful how she went from skating hard to get back to turning around to skate backwards to stop the shot.

You'd be more likely to hear about transfers coming in from people within the team the player is departing from...

Re: Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey

Is it common to have a couple of changes on most teams after the Xmas break? Sorry folks, I'm a newbie (kid's a freshman) and just learning all this stuff! Appreciate the discussions, not so much the name calling and hurled insults. My kid's team is losing a D that didn't play (so no real loss) and apparently bringing in a forward.

I would call it somewhere between "common" and "not unusual" if that makes sense. Not every team every year has changes but usually a few teams have changes between semesters.

I'd say if depends on the conference, but generally pretty rare. You do see more movement at some of the state schools, in particular places like UMass-Boston where you have kids maybe moving back home.

Re: Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey

I would suggest not playing in this sandbox my friend.... CrossCheck has my attention presently. But that could change....

Re: Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey

I doubt he does anything to tinker with this team. The only loss was a game Plattsburgh outshot Oswego by a large margin. Unless he starts having injuries, dropouts, or transfers, the team stays the same.

How do these student/athletes transfer mid-season? (Serious question to the folks out there!) Aren't student/athletes restricted from contacting other programs until they sign a release of some sort? I would think coaches wouldn't be able to reach out to student/athletes at other schools. It seems like a really, really small window of time mid-season. Just wondering.

Re: Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey

I know that some of the transfers are girls doing a post grad year in high school playing junior hockey. Not sure about transferring from other D3 schools but I'm sure there's a way.

Little to no restriction at DIII athletic transfer wise, just have to be academically eligible

Re: Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey

According to the game wrap from last night, Meneghin passed Laurie Bowler [who at one point had a tie for the D3 PPG record before Tori Charron broke it] for ninth on the school career points list and needs three to tie Bridget Balisy for 8th.

It also notes that Camille Leonard needs one more win to tie Carolyne Roy for second in career school wins. She is very likely to beat Sydney Aveson's NCAA D3 career wins record [69] before even hitt. If she starts every game and wins, win 70 would be Feb 8 at home against Middlebury. If Abbott starts or Leonard loses the record breaking is likely to be at home against Elmira that weekend 2/11 and 2/12.

I have all the respect in the world for Leonard's accomplishments but if I had to pick one Plattsburgh goalie to win a game, I think I would still have to take 33. Aveson might not have as many wins when it's all said and done, but her NCAA D3 career shutouts number of 31 is not in danger. She also is still 2nd in Save % and 3rd in GAA. But in Leonard's favor will be career wins and number of titles.

Granted, I may be biased as I was on campus for Aveson's run on dominance, but mostly watching Leonard's on NSN.
