Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

There is a very strong possibility Bruce did not select the music, nor is in charge of what music is being played. I can say one thing though...knowing what goes on, i'm surprised that the person or people who SHOULD be in charge of the music would let that happen. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that na na na na goodbye is not a good idea at that juncture of the game, as well as long neck bottle. In my day, that would get played once, and it wouldnt happen again or someone would lose their job.

Like this guy........http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/alabama_fires_part-time_employ.html

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

True, except Bruce is the preacher man (though he might also be the son of a preacher man).

I don't know him, never met him...after hearing you guys trash him, I thought I would do a little research...:D

From the Plattsburgh website...

Bruce Delventhal
Director of Athletics

Phone: (518) 564-3140
Email: delvenbw@plattsburgh.edu

Bruce Delventhal was named director of athletics at Plattsburgh State on June 28, 2005.

The Cardinals have achieved unparalleled success since his arrival, with 22 teams appearing in the NCAA Championships during the last four years. Women’s ice hockey won back-to-back national titles in 2007-08, men’s hockey (2008) and women’s cross country were the national runner-up (2007) in the 2007-08 academic year, softball finished fourth at the 2007 World Series and 2005 men’s soccer was third. In addition, Plattsburgh has captured 14 State University of New York and Eastern College athletic conference titles and scores of conference individual champions.

Plattsburgh student-athletes have earned a higher grade-point average than the general student population during every semester since Bruce came to campus. In addition, the Cardinals have earned scores of individual awards such as All-Americans, -conference and academic all-conference performances.

Bruce was instrumental in the renovated Stafford Ice Arena, which underwent a $2.1 million renovation in Summer 2008 that included easier spectator navigation, theatre-style chairback seats, expanded press box (with Ethernet and wireless connections), new dasher boards and pro-style tempered, seamless glass as well as improved lighting. Then for the 2008-09 season, two wall-mounted scoreboards with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) techonology were installed that are brighter, more-efficient devices than bulbs. Future plans call for a closed-circuit video screen.

Facility improvements have also been made at Chip Cummings Field, which serves as the home of Cardinals Baseball. Recent additions include an inning-by-inning LED remote-controlled scoreboard, pressbox with film deck and permanent bleacher seating behind home plate and extending to both dugouts.

Bruce formed the Friends of Plattsburgh State Athletics, which is the fundraising arm of the department, and has worked with several organizations to help bring Cardinal teams closer to the community.

Bruce has worked for the American Hockey Coaches’ Association since 1988 as secretary/treasurer. As an officer of the AHCA, he’s charged with creating and implementing budgets, developing convention agendas and generating sponsorships. He is also a member of the board of Hockey Coaches Care, a non-profit charitable organization which raises money to help people in need at all levels of the hockey community.

Bruce held men’s hockey coaching positions at Union College, Rochester Tech (RIT) and Princeton. He led RIT to the 1985 NCAA Division III National Championship, and was an ECAC Coach of the Year during his Union tenure. He’s also taught and coached hockey at the Northwood School in Lake Placid, N.Y.

After his coaching days, Bruce spent eight years working in the business world as North America sales manager for the fishing/tackle division of two Japanese companies, Yo-Zuri and Seaquar.

An avid New York Yankees, New York Rangers and major college football fan, Bruce is chair of the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship Committee and a Plattsburgh Rotary member. He's also an associate with the Gender and Women’s Studies Program as well as a lecturer in the Honors Program at the College.

Bruce received a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College and a master’s from Princeton Seminary.

He is married to his wife, Allie, who works as a nurse and midwife. She previously taught at the universities of Pennsylvania and Rochester. They have a grown son, Brent, who resides in Richmond, Va.

His master’s from Princeton Seminary is a Master of Divinity, IMO, far from the qualifications for an Athletic Director at a public college. While I have a sincere respect for anyone who can complete any Master's program and the Master's of Divinity more than many (I doubt I could handle it), it is not the degree most suited for the position, and IMO his extremely poor performance is not from a lack of qualifications for many positions, but from a lack of qualifications for the position he holds. I do believe him to be an intelligent individual, but also believe him to be a con man, someone who needs to feed their ego, and has a talent for telling people what they want to hear and for finding coat tails to ride as a tool to overcome his shortcomings. Perhaps, he simply bit off more than he can chew, if so, he or someone, needs to do something about it, he is eroding a great athletic department.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Hahaha, that's a little funny. I'd take "Son of a preacher man" over "Long Neck Bottle" :)

Since we are on the Plattsburgh thread, lets talk vacated titles :)...whats the over/under on the time it takes Auburn to lose their national title if they win it this year?

Disagree. The athletic department as a whole is not eroding. I believe Laker Eagle Lover's research shows that Plattsburgh's athletic department as a whole has been very successful since Bruce came on. That's not to say that Bruce has had a direct hand in most of that, but still, not eroding. I'm interested in knowing who's coattails he rode, or is riding. I'm not going to sit here and defend his actions all day, because I don't agree with quite a few of his decisions, but he has done a pretty good job considering his "lack of qualifications" and useless-for-this-position degree. Might I add, his subordinates like him. I guess he must be doing something right.

Oh wait, perhaps they have been conned by the brilliant con man.

As he did at RIT, he joined a quality program, with a five year facilities plan (renovations, etc) all ready on place and full of great, dedicated, hard working individuals, IMO, the program without anyone would have done at least as well as it has under him. I have seen no initiatives linked to him that would be worth the negatives he spit out. He has had several years to handle something as simple as ticketing, and has managed to do next to nothing, one year they did offer telephone sales, but apparently he couldn't even devise a plan to do that right. He might be great choosing subordinates, and I'm sure he demands respect and I did say I think him to be a con man. The nice Burghy bus is as much timing as hard work. I'm sure he is great for a lot of things, but Plattsburgh's AD isn't one of them.

His "great" coaching record is here, .537 despite starting off with a great team at RIT - which he eroded as well, I don't see any evidence of him "getting better" with the job - I sincerely wish I did.

New website, Live Stats, Friends of Plattsburgh, creating needed full time positions...He has also maintained almost all of his coaching staff since he's been here. I don't know about you, but most coaches would find someplace else to go if they saw their program was eroding because of their boss. Most of the coaches in the athletics department at Plattsburgh could easily find a coaching job elsewhere, even in these harsh economic times.

I just don't think its fair to say he is not capable of being an AD because he failed to satisfy you with his version of a ticketing plan. I cannot imagine what kind of things you might say about Timmy Hale.

Norm, enough is enough! This is a total embarrassment for all fans of Cardinal athletics. If you need to continue this witchhunt, have the courage of your confictions and do it face to face.

Larry Normandin is my real name, no hunt is required, the website & live stats are everywhere (nothing to complicated here, just go with the flow - post an updated Media Guide to the web, that might take some effort), Bruce is close to a total embarrassment, as for the coaching staff, they are clearly dedicated, and like any real captain are willing to stay with their ship. It is what it is, every con has his cronies, posts like these do not surprise me.

Even before Bruce come here the rink was going to get redone. The old bleachers were condemned from what we have been told so they had to be replace. sure they could have just gone with another bleacher style seating and made it just as nice but they didn't. I wouldn't give Bruce all the credit of the rink reconstruction. also, the website, the college knew they needed to do something.... Bill's site was generating more hits than the actual college site....

Agree, you would think a great AD would A) at least praise the man who put Cardinal Hockey on the internet for YEARS instead of making him shut down his site. B) a real AD wouldn't be going on a full year with 2 scoreboards that are complete junk THATS a real embarrassment and C) worrying more about the other things then some elderly lady ringing a cow bell.

We talked with several people in the stands about Bruceys actions (in a lot of things) and the census is, the fans are not the problem, the students are not the problem, the coaches are not the problem...even the security staff doesn't like working for him. You remember the old days Larry, Brucey would have had a heart attack or stroke by now if he had to deal with all the things we did back in the GOOD OLD DAYS. Unfortunately we have too many people who just want to keep their mouth shut and let Brucey do his time and move on.

Finally we got to see 5 Cardinal Hockey games via the internet, something dozens of teams have been doing for years now. I guess thats all because of Brucey too....I want a leader as an AD not a follower. Someone who will stick up for his students and fans that pay his check and have supported Cardinal hockey for YEARS. Look at what he did to the organist. How fans were treated with their season tickets. Maybe thats why he wants the students so bad so when he finally drives out all his locals he has some sort of a crowd left. I also know first hand that some coaches are NOT happy with Bruce. I had a co-worker who's son played on a varsity team, asked me what I knew of the guy because all his sons coach did was complain about the nonsense he tries to do to the team and coaches. Sure you can pull all the academic stats, and thats great...but to think he has anything to do with that is a slap on the coaching staffs face.

Call it slander whatever you want. I've talked with Mr No Fun and listened to his line of crap. He knows exactly how I feel on things, but unfortunately not everyone wants to step up to the plate and tell him.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Well after all this let's see what Brucy has done for us.
1. Helped make the Hockey team successful - Nope they were just as successful before he showed up

2. Helped renovate the Staffard Ice Arena - Great now for those of us who were unable to get season tickets years ago have little chance now. We have scoreboards that do not work and now as a college program are basically using a high school scoreboard. Now a video that is played on a wall that people walk in front of.

3. Tried to make a Saturday night Hockey game into a family affair - Well with the aforementioned ticket problems that makes it hard. But I remember when I was younger my mom bringing me to hockey games that was an experience. People would get excited screaming and yelling when Gary Glitter came over the loud speakers because they knew the card were coming out. The you knew it was the 3 period no matter if you were blind and didn't count the periods because Europe would blast through the loudspeakers. The zoo crew, the couch potato, programs the were a program not a flyer, little kids waiting in the lobby for the players to come out to get autographs. tennis balls when Oswego played and I am sure I am missing some traditions that made it a fun atmosphere to be in. I go to the games now and wonder where it all went, I have tried to explain to my wife who just started going to the games about these traditions.

Is he a good AD well maybe he is but not for the fans and others, he to me seems like a person who wants to please the powers to be and not who support the program and have been supporting the program.

I never did, and never will, give him the reconstruction of the rink. I knew that was in the works before he got here. Whoever thinks that was Bruce is foolish.

OK, see this is something I respect. I agree with most of your points. I never said Bruce is almighty, he is a great AD, yadda yadda. I just didn't see the point of someone sitting here making outlandish claims with no points to back it up besides I don't like the ticket policy. What Remy said isn't slander. You've talked to whoever, and you've talked to him yourself, and that is what you encountered, face to face. What I have encountered face to face is different, and that's OK. That stuff happens.

There might be a couple of coaches that may not like him, but from what I know, the majority don't have anything bad to say. But again, I respect your points. I agree with the letting go of the organist. I wish Plattsburgh had the type of atmosphere that Oswego does. It makes me envious. Realize, though, in Oswego, they don't need cowbells. Or a pep band. I haven't seen the new scoreboards, but from what everyone is saying, they are horrible, and a pain. It's hard for me to imagine that Bruce would just let crappy, half-working scoreboards sit in that rink and not give a darn about them.

1. Bruce has nothing to do with the success of the hockey team, if we are talking wins and losses.
2. See my above post.
3. Bruce has little to nothing to do with the traditions you posted. He doesn't do "programs", and those "programs" were generated in that manner well before Bruce. Tennis balls, errr I believe Oswego and Plattsburgh teamed up to do away with those because students weren't well versed on the tradition. I don't know Gary Glitter, I'm sure he was great, but Mad Dog is pretty good too, and Bruce had nothing to do with that. I miss Europe in the third period. That got us all going. However, Brucey has nothing to do with that as well.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

wow, you guys have a rough start to the season and now your all at each others throats. :-P. GJ on the Primelink win, even though you're our rivals, I was rooting for you.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I don't know Gary Glitter, I'm sure he was great,

I am really not trying to be a jerk but, Gary Glitter, Rock & Roll is the one song that has been played in probably more arenas and stadiums than any other song. Parts of it were also played after each Cardinal Goal.
