Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Does anybody know when Behind the Bench is scheduled to start?

Maybe Norm knows this?

My guess is the 18th because the following Monday they will be playing in the exhibition game.

I'm really looking forward to the Red and White game. It's a good time to evaluate the incoming Freshman. I'm going to have my eye on Jensen and Farnan. They (according to what I've heard) are the two newcomers that can bury the puck in the back of the net.

Here is the complete list of Freshman via Bill's site...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I just called WIRY. They said they're unsure and to contact Ducky tomorrow afternoon. The man told me that Ducky has to get in contact with Coach Emery to find a "suitable time" for him to do the show, and then they go from there.

Until then...

The first episode of Behind the Bench is TBA at a later date.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Just to let everyone know, we have a relative who works for SUNY Oswego. He went to buy tickets for the PSU/OSU game and they are already sold out....still some standing room left, and the box office said that after the students have their shot there may be a handful left.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Excerpt from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican – Sunday 10/10/10 (not available on-line):

…Of the 21 players returning off last year’s young and surprising team, 16 were either freshman or sophomores.
As a result, the emphasis on this year’s recruiting class was put on quality rather than quantity.
“As a whole, each year we go out and try to improve our team and I echo those sentiments this season,” Emery said.
“We graduated four players and we’ve brought in eight. Every year, we bring in between eight and 12 recruits and we have a lot of players returning from last year.”

“If we had a weakness last year, it was finding the back of the net,” Emery said. “We’ve brought in some players who will hopefully help out in that area.”
The first official practice for the Cardinals is October 15 and Plattsburgh State will hold its Annual Matty’s Cup Red-White exhibition game the following night.

Hockey Cardinals salute fans (Excerpt from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican – Tuesday 10/12/10)

The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team will celebrate the 2010-2011 season as the "Year of the Fan."

Uniform No. 7, representing the Plattsburgh State men's hockey fans, will be retired during an exhibition game with Montreal's Concordia on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

"No. 7 will be retired with the other retired numbers in honor of the best fans in Division III Hockey," said Plattsburgh State assistant coach Steve Moffat. "The fans here have won a lot of games for us in the past."

The retired number is just one of the changes this coming season.

"We're trying to change the atmosphere in the arena this year, with a student section," said Moffat. "We're trying to get the student section more involved.

"We're also in the process of starting a student band and we've updated the rink with more history of the hockey program."

What the heck? I'm a hardcore PSUC hockey fan, but that's pretty weird. Retire a jersey number in representation of the fans? How about they just list our overall record at home, and put something like "Protect this House" or something cheesy like that?

Anybody else think this is a little odd to retire number seven for the "seventh man"?

PSU to induct 4 in Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame (Excerpt from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican – Tuesday 10/12/10)

The Plattsburgh State Athletics Department, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, has announced four additions to the Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame. The 2010 class of inductees includes Jessica Allen '99 (soccer), Chris Balducci '93 (soccer), Gary Gillis '78 (track and field) and Steve Moffat '99 (ice hockey). The quartet will be officially honored during Cardinal Weekend Oct. 22-23.

The annual ceremonies have a new home this year and will take place at The Burgundy Room, 770 Route 3, Airport Plaza, in Plattsburgh. The event kicks off at noon with the inductions, followed by the luncheon at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23. The cost is $17 per person and R.S.V.P to 800-964-1889 or alumni@plattsburgh.edu by Oct. 11.
...
Steve Moffat

Moffat skated for the Cardinals men's hockey team from 1994-98, compiling 106 goals for third place all-time in school annals, and 203 points, sixth all-time. He was a two-time All-America forward, including first-team accolades as a senior when he recorded 31 goals and 26 assists for 57 points — career highs in the latter two categories.

He was named the 1995 SUNYAC Co-Rookie of the Year after scoring a career-best 32 goals as a freshman. A three-time all-conference selection, he helped Plattsburgh to two SUNYAC titles, three NCAA tournament appearances and an 88-29-9 record. He twice was chosen to the conference's all-tournament team, including MVP honors in 1997. He also earned back-to-back school Male Athlete of the Year honors. He served as an assistant captain during his junior year and then elevated to team captain as a senior.

After graduation, he played professionally for the Columbus Chill and Florida Everblades in the East Coast Hockey League and later worked at Seton Catholic High School. Currently, the Cardinal All-Decade Team member (1995-2004) is in his 10th season on the Plattsburgh State men's hockey coaching staff.
