Plattsburgh Obliterates Fredonia in 10-2 Massacre on the Ice

If last night's game was any indication, it would seem as if Plattsburgh was having a grand ole time on their road trip out to Western New York. After shutting down Buffalo 7-0, the red and white locked their crosshairs on the Fredonia Blue Devils.

On paper, this had the potential to be a very close and exciting game...see my recap at http://www.therobbrennan.com/journa...tes-fredonia-in-10-2-massacre-on-the-ice.html for more details

Re: Plattsburgh Obliterates Fredonia in 10-2 Massacre on the Ice

Is this massacre on the ice assumed to be different from the one that might have happened in a grassy field?

Re: Plattsburgh Obliterates Fredonia in 10-2 Massacre on the Ice

Another pointless thread for shameless self promotion.

I've got an idea, how 'bout you start one thread that will have your weekly updates in it and it will just bump to the top every time or are you just so lazy that you don't want to search for a week old thread? :p

That was an idea I entertained awhile ago, however...The point was to start a discussion about the respective games in their own threads - not just sharing my opinion on my blog but also seeing if other people had thoughts on the specific game (and to date, the only "conversation" that has surface in either my threads OR the main xx thread centers around idle nit-picky rants and no real discussion). I feel it's pretty lame to have a gargantuan thread that has 20 pages and really just seems to meander. I felt people would be interested in sharing their thoughts about the game - not to simply accept my thoughts as gospel and that was it.

And, just to be clear, this style has worked out quite nicely. The quality of the readers to my blog has been up, the conversation has been mostly positive (although not directly on the forums which several readers have commented have a lack of real conversation), and it has been nice tool to share my interests of writing and Cardinal hockey with other passionate fans. And if those fans are opting to just catch the short and sweet version, what is the harm?

I would love to have a fun conversation about specific games; as there are many positives (on both sides of the rink, for that matter) with plenty of room to discuss things. If people simply opt to not participate, or "contribute" by choosing to pout like angry kids at a sandbox instead of discuss the game at hand, then that really is out of my hands and - honestly - something that I'm not overly concerned about.

We're all hockey fans presumably. A forum is a great place to share ideas (including thoughts on the game yes?) - why try to make it a place where contributing members (whether through forum posts or blogs) are made to look like they are polluting the forums when they are contributing?

I agree, and have pondered the dilemma myself, identifying the thread with a reasonable title allows it readers to "take it or leave it". When it is no longer "topical", it will follow the evolutionary path down the threads and into electronic oblivion - no harm - no foul.

Oblivion, that's near Plattsburgh, right?

Re: Plattsburgh Obliterates Fredonia in 10-2 Massacre on the Ice

Only because it hasn't been said yet AND its actually hockey related...

Hats off to Fredonia for losing with CLASS!! Even being blown out they not once got chippy. They banged some bodies around, but it was clean and everyone walked away...unlike the night before from the Buff State Bungles... disgrace to hockey...and their coach thinks its funny.

Once again, hats off to Fredonia for taking the whooping and never resulting to the dark side.

Yup - about thirteen miles northwest; although most folks miss it because the world flattens out just before you hit it  On the plus side, they have some killer milkshakes.

You want to talk about class? Why don't we talk about the class or in certain cases lack there of displayed by the Plattsburgh fans Friday night. Not all of the fans were bad, many of them were really nice people who were there to root for their team and enjoy the game of hockey. Some in particular however really disgraced the University, Team, and the game. Screaming obscenities at college athletes from the stands while holding your young daughter in an Arena full of kids absolutely screams class. Yelling at the players on the ice, in the penalty box, on the bench and the home broadcast crew during and after the game using every four letter word that would come out of your mouth definitely is much classier than what was a clean hit where the player had his head down and got his bell rung. Or what about the class that was shown by leaving numerous dirty diapers in the stands? Really, you don't even have the common decency to throw them out forcing the student volunteers who clean up after the games to deal with them?

Platty fans need to take a page from the Oswego playbook. I've never seen Oswego fans resort to things like that. Every experience I've had with Laker fans has been positive. You can go root for your team with class and dignity but there is a line that shouldn't be crossed and some Plattsburgh fans were so far over that line on Friday you could not even see it anymore.

I listened to the broadcast and found the exchange with the Plattsburgh-guy hilarious. I personally would love to hear more on-air arguments with opposing fans. I did a double-take at one point, because - while I'm not sure I heard it, but it sounded like one of the two broadcasters dropped an f-bomb during this exchange.

As far as the game call, you guys do a very good job. I don't know if it's the same guys as last year, but it seemed markedly better.

If you could only get your stories straight....YOU my friend were the one dropping F bombs, taking your head sets off trying to challenge me...unfortunately I do have a REAL job not a little college broadcaster...Never did I swear at Nick, just like last year. I never knew pink panties, punk, goon were not acceptable in your vocabulary, but you seemed to toss quit a few of them around. Nice try punk.

So over the line? Your right your team is a bunch of no good goons. Welcome to the basement Buff State. You want to challenge me on the air, of course I am going to turn around. You think you can hide behind your mic and no one knows what your saying....? Real tough guy you were....

I by NO means am denying I was yelling at Nicky boy...the dude is a punk goon. 14 penalty minutes in two games...pathetic...he thinks we pay to come see him? Thats like me saying I listen to Buff State radio to hear you. But not ONCE till the goon RAN our goalie and the cry baby tried claiming he was high sticked till he got to the penalty box and realized the reffs were not buying it, he was cured by the hand of god it seemed. I can't stand wanna-be hockey players like that who resort to goonish tactics. Maybe if you actually had some fans that went to the games besides a few townies you could see what a real college atmosphere is like. Stay in your little box, its okay it will get you far in life.

Vandy DID have his head down, but it was your goon squad who left his feet. If Buff State actually had a decent broadcast people could have seen it. Once again Buff State gets blown out and resorts to cheap shots and big hits because they can't play hockey. Maybe some day when your team can play with class you won't have to worry about people being upset with your goon squad. Sad that your coach could sit there and laugh when an opposing player is down and the goalie gets ran over. You wonder why Emery was at the players door about ready to come over into the Buffalo bench, or why he lit into little "student athlete" when he skated by the Plattsburgh bench smiling.

How about you take a page out of the Oswego fans and "SIT DOWN B****!". Next time don't like pretty boy hold you back. I was so scared..I deal with bigger **** then you every day at my real job. Work on your broadcasting.

So we're all agreed then that everyone should take a page from Oswego's book because the Lakers are obviously the best team, with the most class, and the best fans in all of SUNYAC.

I wouldn't go that far...and I already graduated from Oswego. Granted, of all the games in the SUNYACs I have seen both home and away (I have not been to Buffalo, Fredonia, Brockport, or Potsdam) it appears to me that both Oswego and Plattsburg fans are, as some would say, "classy" for lack of a better word. All over D-III and D-I hockey I am sure their is bad language directed at refs, players, fans, etc etc but its all in fun. Its when you pass the point of "fun" and turn the game into an unpleasant experience for each other that it becomes a problem. I recall a game I went to a Geneseo-Oswego game in Geneseo when students took it upon themselves to park them selves in the Oswego fan section, which happen to be a lot of students that day, and decided to blatantly call on us and act inappropriately, not to mention being (or acting) drunk. This was fixed quickly with Oswego fans getting the university police to escort the goons out of there. Thats not classy for Geneseo fans. I'm not saying yelling things towards officials or players is right, but it happens everywhere, and real die-hard student fans are going to yell things like that, thus you get our little Oswego "sit down *****" chant, among many others from other schools.

My first ever Princess...Princess Prozak (Andy Rozak) from Oswego...He told MANY OSU people he loved the raz...and I never ONCE would take it any wheres past the ice rink. Andy was a great player, and played along with the whole thing great. It was "as you said" in fun. HOWEVER players like Brian Avery (Geneseo) and now Nick Petriello (Buff State) crossed over into the goon squad.

A. The moron broadcasters last year said (once again) that I was "cursing obscenities" at Petriello last season. After his third penalty (and all three were goonish type) yes, I did blast on Nicky...not once with a four letter obscenity. I don't need to, I can come up with things with out swearing, and 99% of the people around will laugh. When he starts chirping back (no pun intended) saying "I paid to watch him" the dude obviously has reality issues. So this year, yes game on.

B. Then Nicky starts getting into trouble again this year...I guess you Buff State tree huggers want "go team go" chants all night long...and the "aww its okay, you will be out in 2 minutes, I am so sorry you got a penalty" type crowd...DOESN'T HAPPEN IN REAL DIII hockey.

C. When a goonish play happens what do you expect people to sit on their hands and say shame shame shame?? Please. Maybe if you had more than 300 people in the stands you wouldn't hear me as much.

Us challenge you... Call You Out? I personally was reporting on the game by saying the play getting chippy on BOTH sides and that some fans were getting into a verbal altercation with Nick in the penalty box. I was reporting the facts. I hardly find that challenging you..don't flatter yourself. My colleague took his headset off after you came up about four rows and started pointing in our general direction screaming while were trying to report on the game.

As I recall you were not the one listening to the Broadcast, your buddy with more class than you was, so how do you know what we said to begin with. How about you get your facts straight instead of guessing what we said over the air and coming up a couple rows like an A**. Just to give everyone else a perspective of how classless you were being, other fans from Plattsburg wanted us to call security and have you escorted out. Your own fans wanted to see you gone that speaks volumes about your creditability! If you were only screaming "pink panties, punk, goon" why would members of you own fan base want you thrown out of the arena. That makes no sense what so ever. I am all for cheering and booing and whatnot but what you were saying especially with kids around was classless. Your saying all this stuff about being older and whatnot you yelling at a college hockey player through Plexiglas really shows your maturity.

You want to point out the facts....ok the facts our goalie was run into 4 times that game. Once his helmet flew off and almost hit the goal post. After the fourth time Buffalo State retaliated once like any hockey team at almost any level would do and you want to call us goons? Ok I see how this game is played its okay for Platty to do it but you don't like when it is done to you.

Im sorry a member of your team got injured at the end of the game. No one wants to see anyone get hurt. looking at the stats "to get my facts straight" Wicklum who made the hit did not receive a penalty for the hit even if he did leave his feet the ref deemed it a clean hit. Nick only has 20 PIM total 8 PIM against platty and 16 in SUNYAC play total so I dont know where your getting 14 in 2 games. Us being goons yea we take a lot of penalties but we dont dive...Like Mr Satem in the 1st period for which he got a game misconduct.

You forget were in a top 50 Broadcast market in the Country with a NHL team a couple blocks down the street with a HOME GAME against Boston. We are the ONLY town with an NHL team and a basketball team having a tournament at the same time as the hockey game. Sorry that we do not live in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do on a Friday night. You want to point out the fact that you have a real job....nice I have a real job as well I pay my way through college I have two jobs one of which is be a beat reporter for the Buffalo Sabres. I will keep working on my broadcasting which someone already posted is improving. Thank you for the advice

As for "I deal with bigger **** then you every day at my real job" I am deeply sorry you have a tough job being a stay at home dad. Dealing with your daughters ****** diapers as evidence of which you left in our arena must be a really tough gig.
