Re: Places I've Seen a College Hockey Game

I went to two summers of hockey camp at Dayton Arena, but I never saw a college hockey game there. I've seen high school games/actually played at just about every Maine rink you've listed, though.

I grew up in Brunswick, so Dayton was a second home for me. If I wasn't playing, I was watching some game there... When Dayton was rockin' it was a tremendous atmposphere... when Bowdoin would play Colby, it was as good as it gets... Bowdoin students throwing grilled cheese sandwiches or tennis balls in the direction of the Colby net on Bowdoin's first goal of the game... it was great...

new arena is a palace and sterile by comparison... still gets loud, but nothing like the Dayton....

Re: Places I've Seen a College Hockey Game

Another short list.

RPI (Houston) Field House
Boston Arena (RPI-BU ECAC playoff game, 1969)
Madison Square Garden (ECAC Holiday Hockey Festival, December 1969)
Tampa Bay Times Forum (Lightning College Hockey Classic, December 2007)
Verizon Center (2009 FF)

I have yet to see RPI win a game away from the HFH.

Ralph, I can get you tickets to RPI @ Clarkson anytime

You should travel to Cheel during the playoff season. Guaranteed RPI win. :(.

Re: Places I've Seen a College Hockey Game

BU beat Bowdoin 6-1 at Dayton back in 1992.
Yes, on 4 Jan. As I recall it wasn't the best of driving conditions, but I made the trip. BU was missing 2 of the 3 second line players and had makeshift second and forth lines. BU dominated the games, but Bowdoin's goalie, Darren Hersh, kept it close for 2 periods.

Not an impressive list but I'll play:

The Ralph(best one obviously :D) Grand Forks, ND
The Old Ralph- Grand Forks, ND
Sanford Center- Bemidji, MN (small and quiet)
Amsoil Arena- Duluth, MN (2nd favorite rink, great sight lines)
National Hockey Center- St. Cloud, MN (concrete palace, decent student section, pretty sterile arena)
Marriuci Arena- Minneapolis, MN (Only trip was the last UND/UMN match-up as WCHA foes, good sight lines unless you're in SRO which I was, big open bowl)
Century Link Center- Omaha, NE (wayyy too big for 99% of college hockey teams so always feels empty)
Magness Arena- Denver, CO (nothing special, lack of devoted fans)
World Arena- Colorado Springs, CO (worst student section, overall decent atmosphere)
TD Ameritrade Park- Omaha, NE (Where the CWS is played, Outdoor hockey game, great time and fun town)

Postseason venues:
Xcel Energy Center (Great arena, 4 WCHA Final Five's & 2011 Frozen Four)

Re: Places I've Seen a College Hockey Game

Looking at my list, it's not really all that long. I should remedy that.

National Hockey Center; SCSU
Mariucci Arena; U of MN
TCF Bank Stadium; U of MN
Verizon Wireless Center; Mankato State
St. Paul Civic Center; WCHA Final Five - last one before they tore down the old building. Clear boards!
Xcel Energy Center; WCHA Final Five and various other non-conference games
Magness; DU
Bradley Center, Milwaukee; 2006 Frozen Four
ScottTrade Center, St. Louis; 2007 Frozen Four

I've also played in and watched a whole host of non-collegiate games in various DIII buildings around the Twin Cities.

If you're ever in Boston to visit Agannis or Conte, you've got to check out Matthews Arena (Northeastern U.), formerly Boston Arena, the oldest indoor hockey arena in North America still being used for hockey. It's a few miles away from BC and BU. Add it to your list. You'll be glad you did. :)
