Pictures of Your Arena

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

A couple of notes...

1.) That's a really friggin' cool walkthough. I liked the easter egg hidden in the tunnel/ice tour. Also, the hall-of-fame gift shop looks pretty expansive.
2.) That said, man, Alfond looks like it's in pretty rough shape.

a little TLC on the roof maybe but it is really cool and it does have those 2 NC banners ya know;)

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

the same as CC, RPI and Cornell............. and all belong amongst the storied hockey programs in the country, IMO

And by "storied", you mean programs whose last championships are merely "stories" that have been passed from generation to generation :p ;) .

I was just ripping on you because you were bragging about having 2 banners to a fan of a team with more than 2. You have to realize when you're not ripping on UNH fans...:p

You're right, the Alfond needs some work, but I don't think I would want it to change at all. There's nothing like watching a hockey game in that arena, it gets so loud and the student section and band are right on top of the ice. It doesn't surprise me at all that many say it's one of the toughest rinks for a visiting team to play at.

Also, that easter egg is the video that plays on the big screen before the team comes out.

For those of you on Facebook, there is a new photo update of the BREC:

You can become a "fan" of the BREC and get updates too...

that looks great, i'd love to visit that part of the country to see some college hockey. one question though, you've been to a Hockey East rink but not BC, NU or BU's?? no disrespect to U Mass as the Mullins Center is a really nice facility but why not go to the big city??

Ha! The first time BSU made the NCAA's (2005), they played in the Regional in Amherst. That's the only reason.

In fact, my funny story about Boston is that I can say I've been there twice and literally only seen Logan and Fenway... The first time I flew into Logan and drove up to see my Grandfather-in-law who lives in York, ME (yeah, I should have made a point of stopping at the Whitt); the second time I was on a baseball trip, and woke up in Erie, PA - drove to Fenway and watched the game and left right after and spent the night in Hartford, CT.

I'd love to go back out east and spend some time watching college hockey...

100% agreed. I'm a drummer in the pep band and I don't think there's a better seat in all of college hockey. Front row center balcony, literally right on top of the net, with the atmosphere and everything as stevo said... It just doesn't get any better than that. Now if we could just get a banner from this millenium to throw up there:rolleyes:

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

Here are a couple of the old Mariucci that occupied one half of Williams Arena.

That yellow slanted overhang on one end was there because I believe the basketball stands were above it on the other half. That thing would be covered in black smudges and streaks by the end of the season.

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

Did they destroy half of Williams Arena after the new Mariucci was built?

Re: Pictures of Your Arena

No. The section that was Mariucci is now the Sports Pavilion, where wrestling, gymnastics, and volleyball are held.

They used to have women's basketball in there too until they started doing well, and sold the place out regularly, so the moved to Williams. I was fortunate to broadcast a high school basketball game in there, but that's the only time I've ever been in the place since I moved to Minnesota in 1997...
