Further, if you pick a team to finish as a #3 seed, and they finish as a #1 seed, you will receive 4 points (3 for a #2, 2 for a #3, and 1 for a #4). There is also a 50 point bonus for correctly selecting all 16 teams.

I'm having a tough time understanding all the scoring (not that it will matter;) ). If one of my #3 picks finishes as a #1 I get 4 points. The next bit in parentheses makes no sense at all to me. And if I get all 16, in any order, that is worth 50?

Correct. If you pick all 16 teams correctly, you get a 50 point bonus. If one of your #3 picks gets in as a #1, you receive 4 points. So, if you were to correctly pick all 16 team, but not a single one in their right spot you would receive 90 points (4x4 = 16, 3x4 = 12, 2x4 = 8, 1x4 = 4: 16+12+8+4+50 = 90). Likewise, if you were to correctly pick every team in their correct slot you would score 210 points (16x4 = 64, 12x4 = 48, 8x4 = 32, 4x4 = 16: 64+48+32+16+50 = 210).

My guess is nobody correctly guesses every pick, and that nobody gets all 16 teams correct. There will be a surprise team or two that come from nowhere. I would think anything over 100 points would be a very good score. I suggested that they include a tiebreaker, but so far they have not.

So what they were trying to say that any team I pick that lands in a different slot, I will get 4 pts for a team that ends up as a #1, 3 pts for a team that ends up as a #2.... no matter where I picked them?

Correct. If you pick Team A to finish #4 and they finish as a #1 you get 4 points. If they finish #2 you get 3 points. If they finish #3 you get 2 points, and if they actually are a #4 (your correct pick) you get 4 points. Obviously, if they fail to make the tournament, you get 0 points.

Likewise, if you pick Team B to finish #1, and they finish #2 you get 3 points. If they finish #3 you get 2 points. If they finish #4, you get 1 point, and if they actually are a #1 (your correct pick) you get 16 points. Again, if they fail to make the tournament, you get 0 points.

Basically, you get 4x points for having the team in the correct slot. Otherwise it falls into the 4/3/2/1 structure.

So I was supposed to actually put them in order of what I think the overall seedings will be? I just picked my bands, and put them in randomly....picked 4 #1's, picked 4 #2's, 4 #3's and 4 #4's. Oh well.

You picked it properly. It doesn't matter if the team is the #1 overall seed or the #4 overall seed, only that they are a #1 seed in general.

Western Michigan (1 point)

I would receive 60 points if the bracket is identical to last season.

We currently have 34 entries in the contest, so it will definitely be running. Also, I wanted to re-post the link for anyone still interested. Remember, tomorrow (Oct 6) at noon (eastern) is the deadline for entries into the contest. Again, the winner will receive a college hockey jersey of their choice (whatever team is listed as their "favorite team" in the form). For those interested, here is the link to enter that contest...

Well, entering the contest is now closed, but feel free to make predictions in this thread throughout the year, or to talk about the Pairwise and the like (although, I'm sure there will be other threads for that as well).

Overall, CHW had 39 entries into the contest. They are going to have a leaderboard set up starting after the 1st of the year, that uses the current pairwise for point purposes. Anyway, hopefully everyone enjoys the contest.

Nobody had Minnesota State or Canisius. Most people didn't have Quinnipiac, and I think there were only 1 or 2 that had either Niagara or Yale.

The correct pick layout was as follows...

11 correct - 5 people
10 correct - 11 people
9 correct - 13 people
8 correct - 8 people
7 correct - 1 person
6 correct - 1 person
