Philosophy 1: Wittgenstein was a beery swine who was just as sloshed as Schlegel

I can't get into Hegel no matter how hard I try.

I do not recommend Hegel as original source material. He is shot through all subsequent philosophy so reading the original isn't important or useful enough to justify the pain and anguish. (Same with Heraclitus who at least had the courtesy of being brief.)

Rutgers? I mean...fucking Rutgers? Really?

Rutgers has been amazing in Philosophy for a long time. Another one that's big: University of Arizona, because they host some of the greatest Medievalist resources in the world.

With specialty disciplines one or two famous faculty moving to the school can shift it. In Dr. Mrs.' field (Gender Legal Studies) one woman took the #1 ranking with her as she moved between three schools.

Florida State on par with Carnegie Mellon

go home philosophical gourmet, you're drunk

FSU must have picked up some interesting people -- I had no idea.

My favorite was for a long time NW Louisiana State was a highly rated program because one of the top Continental philosophers was there because he wanted to be close to his ailing mother, and a bunch of great students went from Cal to there with him.

Grad program rankings dwarf undergrad in Philosophy because the only thing you can do with your degree if you are a top philosopher is academia. There is no Applied Philosophy group at a Fortune 500 who is scooping up BAs.

The 50% of this I understand is hilarious. In about ten years I'll know enough to find the rest hilarious.
