Penn State Women's Hockey: what does it mean?

Re: Penn State Women's Hockey: what does it mean?

They most likely will do it just like Syracuse did two years ago--recruit an entire team at once, with a couple favorite local girls, plus 4 or 5 transfers.

The good news for us is that this adds 18 opportunities in the world of women's hockey--a point completely missed by every reporter who's written a story about this so far of course.

Question: How is it that one guy (Red Berenson) is able to keep a women's varsity program out of UM? And what is the problem with Mich St.? Someone above mentioned Indiana might be next for the Big Ten teams? Indiana??? Doesn't Northwestern make more sense? In Chicago there must be a few existing rinks around and at that school money is not an issue. Plus you can pick up a few stud local girls each year.

For those of you that think they know about sports in PA...I can't believe you left out the Flyers...

No mention of the Eagles either. Maybe a poster with a PA West slant on things.

The other good news is a longer lead time to prep than the SU add from a few years ago. There was much less time between the announcement and the startup of the team for the SU add a couple of years ago, and the coach was not announced until real late. (March preceeding the inaugural season).

Re: Penn State Women's Hockey: what does it mean?

For those who don't know anything about sports in PA, it's kind of a big deal!! Ever heard of Penn State Football, Pitt Basketball, Phillies, Steelers, Penguins??

Lets not forget the Neumann Knights:)

or the Hersey Bears. Rock 'em Sock 'em hockey from the old days.

P.S...Most famous PA sports heros must be boxing greats Rocky Balboa and Larry Holmes. :D

Wondering who they will get to coach--I'm sure they will have the money to go after a big name, just like Syracuse did.
