Penn State 2024-2025

Feels like making the Frozen Four is enough of a reason to at least start a thread.

Hell of a season so far, going from bottom of B1G to the first ever frozen four. Most impressive in the playoffs is that the first line has been targeted so extremely that the depth has needed to show up and it has delivered. Of course, it doesn't take a ton of time and space for Fink and Laubach to do their thing.

BU is an interesting matchup for them. Can be very inconsistent and young, but the talent can turn on and become deadly. Shutting down the Coles and staying out of the box would help.

Unfortunate it took this long 🤣. Congrats on the FF berth, ya'll are playing with house money at this point. After beating us Friday, I said I wouldn't be surprised if you guys went on and won it all. Good luck the rest of the way!

I don’t think Cinnamoroll is even a Penn State fan.

In fact, not sure there are any here. Which is sad since they have what appears to be a great fan based.

✋ At least one Penn State fan is here, although I'm usually over posting in the women's hockey board. The men have had an amazing season so far (at least since January!) and are getting a lot of fan support.

I am by default! Any team with a baby shark on it gets my love (hence my crossover knowledge of both CHL and NCAA). Penn State gets extra love for having Reese Laubach, who is not only a Sharks draft pick but a San Jose native and former San Jose Jr. Shark. Plus an extra shoutout to San Jose Rhinos coaching legend Guy Gadowsky and his perfect hair.

...yes this does mean I have affection for both UConn via Muldowney and BU via Svoboda (and DU via Pohlkamp). Just gonna ride the wave of whoever gets farthest and be happy for the success. I do like when a team who has never done it before gets their prize, so perhaps the rooting edge goes to Penn State.

You love to see it. UConn and Penn State were in a similar spot, being a program on the rise for a school more known for other sports, and both getting hot at the right time for a meteoric rise (though Penn State didn't go up until it was almost too late, just to test everyone's blood pressure or something). That matchup did not disappoint. Lots of people seemed to agree that the game was tons of fun, and it looked that way. I was ecstatic it went to OT, because that game deserved it and the fans deserved more of it.

Penn State has some really great and intriguing recruits in the CHL, both already committed players who jumped in after the rule change and newly committed ones. Notable in the WHL are forwards Shea Busch, committed last year and went from BCHL to Everett Silvertips, and overage forward Shea Van Olm. Oddly enough the same name- not a super common one either (though it is my own middle name). SVO plays for the Spokane Chiefs on their top line with 2 future NHLers, lead the league in goals with 49.

The WHL playoffs are available for free on Victory+, and Everett/Seattle game 6 is tonight 7:05 PT, in case you find yourself awake at an ungodly hour because you are too excited about the Frozen Four and need some hockey fix. Chiefs already finished their round 1 series in 5, SVO had 4-7-11, tied for 5th in the league so far. Shea Busch was just named WHL rookie of the week after going 4-1-5 in 3 games. He has the most points of all rookies in the playoffs so far.

Other CHL players include OA goaltender for QMJHL Acadie-Bathurst Titan (rip) Joshua Fleming, who were eliminated this weekend round 1 game 5, QMJHL Halifax Mooseheads D Mathieu Taillefer who are on the verge of a massive upset, OHL Flint Firebirds overage defensemen Nolan Collins who just lost their 1st round series in 5, and 2 OHL rookie forwards who missed the playoffs- Guelph Storm's Lev Katzin and Sarnia Sting's Liam Beamish. Katzin scored 48 points in 44 games to be 3rd in rookie scoring, despite playing roughly 20 less games than both 1st and 2nd place. Beamish had 29 points in 40 games, also solid rookie numbers.

Overall impressed with Penn State's usage of this new recruiting landscape. Reportedly some younger players might be holding back their commitment announcements until their season is done, so there might be more to come. The 3 overage players (Fleming, SVO, Collins) are all very solid bets to take at each position.

now... back to vibrating in excitement for the Frozen Four!
