PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

Re: PC hockey offseason and TOURNAMENT MODE!

So I’m here at the frozen four and I’m thrilled that my adopted team, the Badgers, defeated RIT. My seats are fantastic and the Ford Field environment isn’t as horrible as I expected.

I do have Friars news to share that some might find interesting and frustrating.

Interesting: Ran into Pooley at the game, he was giving me a hard time about not having Friar Gear on (obviously I was wearing Badger gear).

Frustrating: As you walked into the arena there was a section that had team jerseys hanging from a tall overhang. Many schools from around the country had their jerseys hanging there. Merrimack, AIC, HolyCross and so on. Unfortunately, the school with the most awesome hockey logo was not present. I’m not sure how to explain it, but I was seriously disappointed that our jersey was not hanging on that wall.

p.s. Welcome back PC91

I was going to make a joke about this, but I honestly couldn't come up with anything. The angular skating friar owns.

Was there a Sioux jersey? If so, look for it again on Saturday. I kinda wish UND had made the F4 now, just to see what the NCAA would have done with the logos on the boards (a nice touch this year, I must say).

Word is former PC commit Brice O'Connor has committed to Maine.

Hokydad unavailable for comment, to either fan base.

To bad he left. If he was that big a part of their plan I am sure they would have found more money thru aid or whatever. If a player gives his word based upon an offer, he should stick to it. Winning an award in the EJ does not warrant renegotiating. Good luck to him

Maybe he found out the light at the end of the PC tunnel was the incoming train and he was laying on the track as a sacrifice

Mighty narrow shoulders if that is the case..... In fairness, PC is a very expensive school as noted here earlier and it would be a tough pill to swallow. If it could help his family out by getting more somewhere else and PC couldnt match, its hard to judge someone. 53K+/- is a ton of cash in todays world

And you have to agree that playing in Maine will be more enjoyable than playing at PC under the current atmosphere

If you looked at it as a snapshot, i.e. end of the season. Fans were not to happy around mid season and were trying to throw the coach and team out with the bathwater. They sure did turn it around and there is no reason why PC can't do the exact same thing.

Nice recruits coming in next season. They need scorers and Cross and Ferullo fill that void. Might take a while to adjust but Cross being 21 leads you to believe he will be fine and same with the kid from Monarchs.

Sure why not, PC also has a coach who has been to 4 Frozen Fours and 2 national title games. Ought to be easy for him to turn it around since he's done it before. Oh wait, that's a different program and situation not comparable to this one....

BTW when you say "turn it around," they did to a degree. Finishing a couple of games over .500 and no NCAA's isn't exactly a cause for celebration -- it would be at PC however, at this point :(

In a system where student athletes are on one year scholarship contracts and have limited transfer rights, I won't begrudge any student-athlete from reneging on a verbal commitment.

Absolutely -- and very often the kiss of death as well for following up that honor with a national title. ;)

The kiss hits again........is Hockey East the strongest division in college hockey or what..........another National Title

Hi PC fans. Not intending to disrupt your thread (more than I have in the past few months); I know it's early, and the day after the F4, but I come requesting help.

This afternoon, I will be participating in The 24 Bowl to benefit the Travis Roy Foundation, and I'm still not quite at my goal of $500. Any small amount will help, so, if you see this message this morning, and you would like to chip in a few dollars, it would be greatly appreciated.

Donations should be in by 1:00 pm (event starts at 2:00). Thanks!

And yes, I will be bowling on a team named UNH. So, you have a chance to help UNH do something great in April, and you can feel good about it!

PC91 - if you're not going to donate money, I'd prefer if you didn't throw your moral support behind us. Bad things happen when you do that. :p ;)

(For those who don't know, Travis Roy played for BU in 1995. He went into the boards awkwardly in his first shift, suffering a severe spinal injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down. His foundation raises money and awareness for research and treatments for others who have suffered similar injuries. The 24 Bowl is a charity bowl-a-thon (he was #24).)

This time I have put my money where my considerably big mouth is therefore you have will now be going into battle with BOTH my money and moral support. I trust that the results will be VERY different now. :p

Great cause CBG!!! I'm glad that you and your friends are taking the time to do something to help. Wishing you all the best!!!

Now I want you and your team to grab your balls and shoes and strike (literally) a blow for a great cause. :)

I guess I still am not convinced anymore that HE is the strongest top-to-bottom conference, but BC certainly was the best team when it mattered. Goes to show, as most of us say repeatedly, it's how you play down the stretch that counts. Once York's teams get on a roll they are tough to beat. I think they said in the last 13 games of the year BC trailed for a grand total of 55 seconds. A phenomenal run, 3 titles in 9 years, another for HE too.

I remember back in January when BC lost 3 of 5, Hokydad said their season was a big disappointment and told us how bad that loss at Fenway Park was. He even laughed off suggestions that BC would get it together and click -- as they have so many times in the past. As I said at the time, it's not what happens in January that matters -- it's February and March that lays the groundwork for April. I wonder how much BC cares that they lost the game at Fenway now. :p

Thank you so much! We will do our best. :)

And, if I'm not mistaken, that was in the final regular season game (UNH took the lead at 19:01 in the 2nd, BC tied it at 19:56), which means they never trailed at any point in the postseason. That's pretty amazing.
