Re: partisan hockey?
I asked the question and got no answer: Does USCHO have any control over what is advertised or how on its own site? I figure USCHO does, and could spare its users from partisan prattle if they wished.
wrong, you asked the question and were given very clear and direct answers. You were told that USCHO has control over what is advertised; they exercised that control by subcontracting to Google. Google then uses information stored in cookies on your computer to direct ads to you when you log onto this site, on based on some algorithm which examines what kind of websites you visit and then spits out the kinds of ads the writers of the algorithms think might appeal to you.
How hard is that for you to understand?
It sounds like you actually DO understand it and don't like it. If that is the case, stop whining. You got your answer. Either subscribe to the "extra" site so you don't get those ads, stop coming here, ignore the ads, or, if you are like most of us, look at the results of the algorithm and see what it says about you and compare that to who you are.
Notice that the algorithm gives you what it thinks you want to see. If you are getting lots of partisan ads, then the algorithm must have data that shows you are attracted to partisan sites (oh, wait, it's only
everyone else who's partisan, right? You, and you alone, are reasonable! I forgot that momentarily.)
Now can the rest of us get back to having fun discussing what these algorithms might disclose about the thinking of the people who wrote them?
