Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

where ya been /// old city hall:D...ps please take that to the whinny Oz thread:p

By the way should have put a disclaimer on there as people could have been riled up from my statement.:D I welcome the ranking, but a.) in reality it means very little right now b.) the only thing that matters (and I think fans of all teams would agree) is what you do in March. I know all of that has been said before so nothing new there. Also bakdraft, I have been teaching the nation's youth since I last checked here, so I hope I wasn't visiting Old City Hall!

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Yep they do it all the time in practice. Quickest way to get a rebound away from the net before the other team hits it out of the air into the net.

I see what you mean - it was good practice then, cause Brockport was nowhere close to the net that night to even try a swat. Solid goaltending.

Unlike what happened in Geneseo tonight at least. Bloody hell - what a perfect example of not underestimating any of the competition.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I haven't seen the Lakers play this bad in a few years. The first two periods were awful. Bad passing, bad penalties, missed opportunities all over the place. That goal at the end of the second seemed to wake them up. They were a completely different team in the third and OT, but it wasn't enough. I give a lot of credit to Morrisville's goalie. That was not the same kid who gave up 5 to Cortland last night. It easily could have been 7-3 if not for their goalie standing on his head most of the night. Eddie better get the kids ready for Freddy and Buff St next weekend.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

It appears that playing Morrisville at home is this teams kryptonite all of a sudden. This team needs to realize that they need to play a full 60 minutes if they WANT to win. It seems as though that they expect to win against teams like this and this is what happens you get snake bit. The losses to this same team last year and Hamilton come to mind as games where they played down to their opponent. The boys for the first 35 min of the game and looked like the game was going to come to them. Much like that in the Utica game, they DID NOT hustle or outwork the Mustangs. They completely dominated the Lakers the first two periods.

Maybe the slow start was a case of not having any momentum from playing a Friday game (and winning that), but one thing is for certain if McConney doesn't get that late 2nd period point shot past Breen, the Lakers would of skated off the ice with a loss. That got the ball rolling and boys had a nice jump in their step after that and controlled the puck for most of the 3rd (if someone has a stat on time of attack I would love to see that as it seems that Mo'ville hardly ever touched the puck in the 3rd stanza). Things could have been much worse, so I'm happy with a tie after how things looked. In conclusion, I hope these guys can play with that same desperation all game and hustle for a full 60 minutes! I still haven't seen it happen yet.

By the way knowing Eddie this WILL happen (same thing happened with our black alternate uni's a few years back), but how about we get the packing peanuts out and boxes and store those mustard yellow jerseys away for a couple of years? Also, why did they change the entracne video? Notice that when they played the original before the 3rd the Lakers came back to tie it? :D:p Of course none of that has a bearing on the outcome of the game. But the superstitious side of me did not like the changes.

Store 'em and auction 'em at year's end, then we never see them on the ice again. Superstition runs rampant in hockey, of course, but one yearns for the simplicity of the white and green again. They did the same thing with the "fight vid" against Brockport - backloaded it to the 3rd. I think the early video might of had some bearing to the hall of fame entrance during the first period intermission...you know, tradition, old timey photos, yada yada...

It's a moral victory for the Lakers that they pulled this one from an ugly circus to an acceptable tie - acceptable not because Morrisville (namely their goaltender) stole Oswego's lunch money for much of the game, or that they failed to get the win in their own barn, but rather they actually pulled out some decent play in the end, and salvaged a lead in the SUNYAC before hitting the road. BTW, Norwich - you can have that #1 ranking, because speaking for myself at least, I hate it with a passion. Alllll yours.:)

Apparently our point-generating friend Moodie has been benched for breaching team rules of some sort - Digby on the postgame interview mentioned that, adding that they hope to have him back soon...hopefully "soon" is really soon. Another offensive mastermind on the ice tonight couldn't have hurt. This 4 game roadstint up ahead might be the compass point for which way Lakers hockey will end up this season. With how they finished this game at least, they've got hope.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

That was the one thing I forgot to mention. Moodie was out of the lineup tonight as a healthy scratch. He violated team rules and was the reason for his absence. It seems as though he will be back soon, but that remains to be seen. It's possible he could sit out another. I can remember a few instances of this in years past ie Ryan Ellis for one. It is evident that Moodie's presence on the ice is huge for this offense as it seems to flow through him when he is on the ice. They did a decent job tonight in his absence but it was not pretty at times.

This roadtrip always seems to tell what way the season will turn. I despise the WNY roadtrip more than the North Country trip. Freddy and Buff. St. always play us tough in their barns and Freddy appears to be a surprise team this year.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I think that you think that you are bigger and better than the rest of us think!!!
Ever since that morrisville thing...we look at you like a home game against
our sisters. are ya kiddng? you came from behind to tie??? jeeeezus.

They started slow again, their passing was horrible for most of the and Hare gave up a softie on the first goal. This has been their MO the last few times they have played the Mustangs at the CC. Mo'ville plays out of their minds against Oswego (the goalies in particular) but they gutted it out and got a tie, nearly a win. Brown, Boots and Leimbrock all had chances to win it in OT but came inches from doing so.

Whitelaw and Rodrigues looked completely lost with out Moodie so lets hope he is back soon. Ayotte was absolutely awful most of the night. Singleton was the only Laker that put in a really solid effort every shift. The lazy defensive and neutral zone play needs to go away or they will be going nowhere come playoff time.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I gotta admit.. It is entertaining to read this thread whenOswego loses or ties...

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Lakern28 and Laker Alum you make 2 great points here.
1- Moodie out is a hugh hole for the Whilelaw line adn carried over into the game.
2 Just why does Morrisville always seem to give the Lakers fits.
Was't able to watch the game but listened to it.
From what I have seen/listened to/read it seems that Josepher might be that true Offensive defenseman that the lakers need on the Power Play. Hopefully a Tommy "Bomber" McFall type.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Any else wonder whether Hare is the goalie to take us to Placid? He just doesn't seem to be able to consistently stop the tough shots. Early in last nights game is when you need your goalie to stand on his head for you. Not all give-aways in your end should turn into goals. Same thing vs. Genny, there goals were honest, but when does he make the big save that keeps us in the game?
