oshie is sochi.

Re: oshie in sochi.

Glad to see USA win but it sucks the shootout is even be taking place at the Olympics... and it is made even worse by letting one guy take shot after shot.

Re: oshie in sochi.

Re: oshie in sochi.

That shootout wasn't a hockey game....it was a circus. Announcers didn't know what they were talking about and did a very poor job explaining the shootout rules. In fact they didn't explain them at all. How can the same guy keep going, going, going???? Happy for TJ, happy we won, but absurd rules for sure.

I'd rather lose that game and win in the medal round which they most certainly will have to do again. Our road is way tougher than Canada's will be.

No it isn't. Now that the USA pulled off that win yesterday. If things play out like they are expected to today, (USA, Russia, Canada all win in regulation) the USA will actually have the much easier potential matchups.

In that scenario it would look like:
1. Canada
2. Sweden
3. USA
4. Russian
5. Finland
6. Switzland
7. Czech Republic
8. Austria
9. Slovenia
10. Latvia
11. Norway
12. Slovakia

Which means the SF matchups if things went like they should would be Canada vs. Russia/Finland and USA vs. Sweden. Sweden easily had the easiest group and they are ravaged by injuries, still would be a tough game obviously, but I'd say Russia and Finland have more talent than Sweden at this point.

It really is impressive how all but 5 of our 23 players are from the NCAA.

And the biggest American stars are NCAA products lead by Kessel, Oshie and Quick

I actually came on here to ask how many USA players were formers NCAAers.

which didn't happen, and I await with bated breath the new brackets that will result instead. I didn't see the whole game but from what I saw USA was really fortunate not to lose in regulation. I hope the bracket shakes out such that Canada and Russia are both on the other side from USA.

If I understand the seeding correctly, I think the USA is going to be the 3. Winner of Canada/Finland will be the 1 and loser will be the 4. Russia the 5 and Switzerland the 6. Though the Swiss play a stingy defensive style, I think this scenario is best for the US.

Edit: Finland/Canada tie in regulation would throw this off and move US to a 2 and Sweden to a 1.

Hopefully the young American's are paying attention. The games on NBCsn are walking advertisements for the NCAA. Pierre McGuire may be a creepy dude, but he promotes all these college guys like no one else and it is great for the NCAA and it's fans.

US Colleges need to take advantage of this and point this stuff out to recruits who are contemplating playing juniors. No doubt both are an option, and kids should always investigate all options, but no longer is the CHL the only option for the best players. NCAA has and will continue to produce NHLers, and not just average NHLers, NHL stars.

It didn't play out exact, but it worked out. USA is either going to be the #2 or #3 seed meaning they will avoid Russian. They will either play Switzerland or the Czechs.

If Canada wins in regulation USA will likely have a path of Switzerland - Sweden - Canada if they want to win gold. Sweden is pretty depleted by injuries but they have Lundqvist in net. I think they are a better matchup for the American's in the semi's than Russia just because the pure amount of talent on the Russian team. However, the Russian's never seem to put it all together in these tournaments anymore.

Just watching NHL games, it is amazing how many names one recognizes from the NCAA compared to even 10 years ago. (Has anyone ever looked by decade at the percentage of NCAAers in the NHL? There is a commercial with Parise where he states about 30%, if I remember correctly.

College Hockey, Inc has the numbers for the last decade for the most part. 30.5% of the NHL played in the NCAA as of 2011-12.

It is really fun to see as NCAA fans. I would love to get the numbers for 2013-14.

I'm pretty sure it's all very intentional, too. It's all tied in with growing hockey in the US, which NBC would love to see, considering how much they've invested in hockey. Most hockey fans in the US know nothing about college hockey, and don't really even think about it until it gets mentioned.

I was hoping it would be set up for US v. Canada in the Gold medal game if both made it, but Canada didn't hold up its end.
