She's already smarter and more motivated than at least 80% of the WVU student population, and a little bit "nerd-cute" (copyright Kepler). If I were a few years younger, I'd say she's an 8.5 on the MTU curve (which, for the unfamiliar, means an automatic +2 on the classic 10 scale). But at 29, the 10-year difference makes me a bit of a creep. :p

The Egyptian beach volleyball players seem a little out of place but I can't quite put my finger on why....

Venus is now out of tennis entirely. Lost first round singles yesterday, and now her and Serena were just dropped in the first round of doubles.

Surprised that nobody has mentioned the Thrill of Victory, and the (literal) Agony of Defeat for the Dutch in women's cycling.

The women leading the race had a horrific accident, but is ok, but one of her teammates won.

Sarah Sjolstrom sets a world record in the 100m butterfly. First Swedish woman to win an individual gold medal in swimming.

Watching on the NBC app which seems to be the Australian TV feed. Love the announcers (great accents) and they focus on every swimmer, not just the Americans.

Did you watch it? The US cyclist had a 31 second lead with around 8km remaining, ended up finishing fourth because she just didn't have anything left in the tank for about the last 3km. So with about 400m left the pack of 3 that had been following her whizzed past her just then.

Katie Ledecky is part salmon. She destroyed her own world record by a full body length. She was celebrating her win and the rest of the field was still racing.

Watching the app so I didn't hear the interview but it seems an American swimmer called out a Russian swimmer who has twice been caught doping and somehow is still competing. Just about the entire Russian delegation was banned but somehow she made it?

yea, I saw it- it was really stunning as they had not shown her for a while as she gaped the US rider. Almost immediately as they showed her- it was over the handlebars, and into a slump on the side of the road.

THEN the chase you mention. That was exciting- just like many Tour races I've watched where the breakaway was caught- but more heart breaking, as it was fewer riders, and 250m (I thought) from the end. My wife kept telling me to stop talking to the TV- as I was egging her on from thousands of miles away.

It was almost an exact copy of the day before with the mens races- some compelling racing there!

Last night got me really wound up just as I went to bed. The 4x100 happened just as extra time was ending- I wish I had picture-in-picture to see both. So very exciting to watch!

In the lower levels of baseball when a team leads by 10+ runs after the fifth inning the game is over and that team wins. In the past this was known as the Mercy Rule. I propose we call that a Ledecky from now on.

They could've used a mercy rule in the US - Senegal women's basketball game. Ended 121 - 56. If the US had been shut out in the second half, they would have won by eight.

Geno must have felt right at home. Sounds like a score of a typical UConn game.
