It's interesting that after skipping a year to play field hockey NY signed her to a three year contract. Most players are being signed to a one or two year contract. Janecke was signed to a two year contract for example.

Why do you think that is the case? Cost of living differences between markets? Because they play in NJ?

Your first idea has more to do with it than the second one. With what we know the players are making, it's especially tough to manage in the tri-state. I wonder if San Jose will have those same issues.

I was joking on the NJ. Most of the markets have fairly high cost for housing.

Some quick googling indicates that leaguewide PWHL revenues were around $15.1M, and player salaries totaled around $11.1M.

The salary info comes straight from the PWHLPA. The revenue figure, it wasn't clear whose estimate it is, or how accurate it is.

At first glance though, it seems more than fair. Surely, salaries are being subsidized by the league's investors as startup costs.

As league revenue grows, so should salaries. It's not a fully matured league like the WNBA yet, or even NWSL.

The CBA is a joke. The players get what they are given. They have no leverage, other than strike.

They basically have zero leverage or control over there situation.

Section 25.1. No Strikes: Neither the PWHLPA nor any Player shall authorize,

encourage, or engage in any strike (including sympathy strikes), work stoppage, slowdown, or

other individual or concerted interference with the activities of the PWHL during the Term of

this Agreement. Additionally, no Player shall decline to play or practice or fulfill any other

obligations under their SPA or otherwise interfere with the activities of the PWHL or any Team,

or individually or in concert encourage any other Player to do so for any reason because of any

picketing or any labor dispute. Players may be disciplined for violating this Article 25. The

PWHLPA agrees that it will not engage in any concerted activities to breach, induce the breach

of, or threaten to breach or induce the breach of, any SPA.
