Ohio State Women's Hockey 2025-26

The Buckeyes punched their ticket to their 6th Frozen Four in a row with a dominating 6-1 win over Yale earlier tonight. Ohio State's Jocelyn Amos opened the scoring to put the Bucks up 1-0. Yale's outstanding defender Molly Boyle answered to tie things at 1 heading into the first intermission. Ohio State opened this one up in the second period on goals from Kaia Malachino, Sloane Matthews, and Jordan Baxter to take a 4-1 lead into the final intermission. Sloane Matthews and Jocelyn Amos scored in the final frame to give Ohio State the 6-1 win. Ohio State outshot Yale 49-23. Buckeye netminder Hailey MacLeod continued to shine, stopping 22 of the 23 shots she faced in the win. Samson Frey earned 43 saves on the 49 shots she faced. Yale's fine season ends with an ECAC Regular Season Title and a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Ohio State will take on the Northeastern Huskies in the Frozen Four at Penn State's Pegula Ice Arena Friday as the Huskies defeated Minnesota 4-2 in the Minneapolis Regional at Ridder Arena in the 4 vs. 5 matchup.

Three Stars Preview:

Sorry about the now ridiculous delay on my 3 Stars for OSU vs. Yale. Short version of a long story: I’ve just been through a multi-day power outage. Everything’s back, except internet access on my home computer. Meaning I’m still not back to my normal routine.

The “preview” would be that Jocelyn Amos is the #1 Star. With 2 Goals & 2 Assists, that was a pretty easy choice. I’ll try to post the rest “for the record” sometime soon.

Great news for the Buckeyes that Muzerall is extended. Probably good for the continued growth of girls hockey in the state as well.

She was already under contract, does this mean management came to her and gave her more money to not leave in light of the Minnesota thing? Seems an unusual time to renegotiate your contract otherwise.

Maybe the tOSU brass was reminded that this was on their to-do list about the time that Minnesota asked for permission to speak to her about the Gophers job once the FF was over.

UM should interview Bob Motzko. He already knows his way around the athletic deparment and where all the top HS rinks are in the area.

Maybe Motzko could go over to the women's team and Frost could slot in for the men's....

Maybe by the end of her contract she will actually get to coach the Buckeyes in a new arena.

Great news for Buckeye fans! I have to give AD Ross Bjork for taking quick and decisive action on this in the wake of the University of Minnesota situation.

That will be nice.

So would rainbows and unicorns, and seeing a unicorn seems to have about the same odds as an arena being built.

"Things are finally being planned" So are you saying that anything talked about previously, as far as planning, was just poppycock? Why wouldn't anything being said about planning now be poppycock as well?

"Fundraising has been established" Wait...wasn't fundraising possible before? And what is the mathematics of this fundraising with the supposed thousands and thousands of fanatical OSU women's hockey supporters willing to part with their dough to support a new facility. A thousand willing to give an average of $1000 just to throw out some numbers? That would net you 1 million dollars. How about 500 hundred fanatics donating an average of $10,000? That would net you 5 million dollars. The math just doesn't seem to add up without someone giving a very large (eight figure or more) donation. Hockeybuckeye...I'm looking at you. :)

"A new arena is going to happen, it's just a matter of time." I mean, Maybe so, but time seems to be a nebulous variable in this case.

They can't afford a new rink now that they've signed Muzz for another 5 years! Any extra money that was laying around just went towards that. 😂

Isn't this really just a one year extension of her previous contract and not a new 5 year contract replacing an expiring contract? Typically they have a five year contract so recruits believe the coach has some stability to be there during the player's four years. All these contracts have buyout clauses to move on if the opportunity arises. This doesn't guarantee she will be there for the next five years.

Something that boggles my mind on the rink.
OSU athletics revenue was 336 million last year. A Colgate like rink in 2026 dollars is about 60 million. Not even 20% of annual OSU athletic revenue. Most of us, our house costs more than 20% of our annual income!

Colgate built their rink 10 years ago for $40 million. $8 million annual revenue for their athletics department from what I see.

Columbus is notorious for needing more rinks in general. If money is the problem (eye roll) I wonder what the financials would look like on building a decent rink like a Colgate, letting OSU be the main tenant and then just run it as a for profit rink selling ice to the community.

Actually at this point a more likely scenario would be an investor backed 6,500 seat arena for a USHL expansion team. They would rent back to OSU as the secondary tenant.

That 335M supports 36 varsity sports.

Woof. You may be right but that’s like Wayne State Hockey or Lindenwood. No shame to those less rich institutions but be better OSU.

  • Total Revenue: $336,077,887
  • Total Expenses: $320,394,965
  • Surplus/Profit: Approximately $15.7 million
Figures from the article...

Big revenue figure for sure, but also a very large expense number. Probably the surplus/profit goes to the muzzinator's "astronomical" travel and recruting buget.
