Ohio State Women's Hockey 2025-26

Speaking of the College Select series Malachino got badly boarded in the first period of game 3 and looks like she has a broken leg. No justice that only a minor was called.
Sorry to hear. Hopefully a mild break and back soon. Some bad injuries come out of these exhibition games at the various levels, year after year.

We've had very good success over the years that transfers have become essential elements of the team and it looked like Malachino would be as well. Hopefully we can have her playing before we're too deep into the season.

This may make the teeth gnash a bit with only 11F to start with and 5 of them are Fr. The first 6 games are @ Colgate, BSU at home, then off to the Tunnelers. Might we see a .500 record after the first 6 games?

If it's truly a broken leg she might take a redshirt year instead of playing only a partial season.
People think of "broken leg" as if it were a binary thing. But there's a whole range of things that might be called "broken leg" and yet have a wide range of recovery times. Some sort of hairline fracture or bone bruise or bone stress reaction, and she could be ready to play without missing any time at all.

We'll just have to wait for Sierra to tell us the prognosis. :-)

Hopefully it’s an Ovechkin broken leg or recovery program.

Which is why I wrote "if it's truly a broken leg" and not any of those other things you mention.

If it's a simple or hairline fracture she could be playing by early October but we shall see when the time comes. It's all speculation at this point.

This conversation reminds me of the old Westerns where someone takes a brutal injury and replies "it's only a flesh wound".

Or the Black Knight in a certain movie.
The 2021 national champion UW volleyball team had a backrow defender named Georgia Civita. She was an all-conference transfer from Wichita State who had already had two ACL tears/replacements on the same knee.

At the end of September, that ACL went out again. (Subsequent ACL injuries are often the graft of the replacement ligament coming off the bone, as opposed to a 'new tear'). She missed all of three weeks before she was back on the floor, playing without an ACL at all, wearing this huge brace on her leg.

Two weeks later, she had a partial tear of the plantar fascia on one foot. Missed another two weeks, and then was back on the floor, and played - and played well - the rest of the season, through to the championship.

Of course, the coaches and other players started calling her the Black Knight.

Tis but a scratch.

I do not have a box score in front of me, but the Buckeyes won their exhibition game yesterday vs. Durham West by a final score of 7-1. The Ohio State goals were scored by Kassidy Carmichael (2), Sanni Vanhanen, Jocelyn Amos (2), Grace McCoshen, and Joy Dunne. Nice to get three goals from the first-years.

The Buckeyes took game one of their series at Colgate by a final score of 5-3. Colgate's Ava Wood scored the only goal of the first period to put the Raiders up 1-0 at the first intermission. Ohio State came out and scored the next two goals to go up 2-1 in the second period. The Buckeye goals were scored by Mira Jungaker and Joy Dunne. Casey Borgiel would get a late goal for the Raiders to send the teams to the second intermission tied at 2. The Buckeyes scored three goals in the third period to go up 5-2 and put the game away. The Ohio State goals were scored by Emma Peschel, Joy Dunne, and Mira Jungaker. Colgate got a late goal from Casey Borgiel to make the final score 5-3. Ohio State outshot Colgate 55-16 in this one. Hailey MacLeod stopped 13 of the 16 shots she faced in the win. Farah Walker got the start in net for Colgate and stopped 50 of the 55 shots she faced in the loss. The two teams are back at it tomorrow. Game time is 3:00 pm EST.

The Buckeyes completed the sweep of #7 Colgate in impressive fashion earlier today by a final score of 9-4. As was the case in Friday's game, the Raiders scored first on a goal from Dorothy Copetti. Ohio State would answer with goals from Jocelyn Amos and Hilda Svensson to take a 2-1 lead. Colgate would get a goal from AVery Pickering to knot things up at 2 going into the first intermission. The second period was all Buckeyes as they scored six goals to put the game away. Sara Swiderski scored to put Ohio State up 3-2. Colgate would tie it at 3 on a goal from Alexis Petford. The Buckeyes would score the next five goals to put this one away. The Ohio State goals were scored by Kassidy Carmichael, Jordyn Petrie, Maxine Cimoroni, Sloane Matthews, and Hilda Svensson. The Bucks led 8-3 going into the final intermission. Macy Rasmussen opened the scoring in the final frame to give Ohio State a 9-3 lead. Aliexis Petford would get her second goal of the game for Colgate to make the final score 9-4. Ohio State outshot Colgate 46-19. Hailey MacLeod got the start in net for Ohio State and stopped 15 of the 19 shots she faced to get the win. Farah Walker and Brooke Davis combined to stop 37 of the 46 shots they faced for the Raiders. Nice to see the first-years getting involved in the scoring early, and against a top ten team on the road. Ohio State will return home and host Bemidji State next weekend. The Raiders will host Boston University next weekend.

Really nice to see the spread of scoring on the weekend. Can't wait to see WCHA competition as the Colgate team lost a ton of talent from prior years.
