Ohio State Women's Hockey 2025-26

With the 2025-26 season drawing near, the Ohio State Buckeyes bid farewell to graduating players:

forwards
Makenna Webster (2024 NCAA champion)
Jenna Buglioni (2022, 2024 NCAA champion)
Kiara Zanon (2024 NCAA champion)
Maddi Wheeler

defenders
Riley Brengmann (2022, 2024 NCAA champion)
Emily Zumwinkle

goalie
Amanda Thiele (2022, 2024 NCAA champion)

Transferring away from the Buckeyes are freshman Josie St Martin, and junior goalie Lexington Secreto

(though, if I understand things correctly, Makenna Webster returns to play one more season on the OSU field hockey team)

Returning to the 2025-26 roster are:

forwards
Joy Dunne
Jocelyn Amos
Sloane Mathews
Jordyn Petrie
Jordan Baxter

defenders
Sarah Swiderski
Emma Peschel
Mira Jungaker
Brooke Disher
Maria Roth
Grace McCoshen

goalies
Hailey MacLeod
Genny Klein

transferring to OSU from Colgate is forward Kaia Malachino

And incoming freshmen
Hilda Svensson (Sweden)
Macy Rasmussen
Sanni Vanhanen (Finland)
Maxine Cimoroni
Kassidy Carmichael

defenders
Jenna Raunio
Leah Wicks

goalie
Taylor Kressin

That gives the Buckeyes a roster for 2025-26 with 11 forwards, 8 defenders, and 3 goalies.

After two years backing up and/or splitting time with Emma Soderberg and Eve Gascon at Duluth, and then another year doing likewise with Thiele at Ohio State, Hailey MacLeod might finally have the chance to be the #1 goalie. In front of her will be a fairly experience crew of six returning defenders, four (or five) of whom played extensive minutes in 24-25.

So, the real question mark will be at forward, where there are only five returning; and with transfer Malachino joining them, to give six 'experienced' forwards. That might mean the Buckeyes will go as far as their freshmen forwards can carry them. The incoming freshmen class certainly come with impressive resumes. But until they drop the puck, they remain a question mark for the team's fortunes.

Nice write up. Did the other thread get nuked?
Both the 24-25 and 25-26 Ohio State season threads disappeared overnight. One possibility is that HockeyBuckeye, who 'created' them, took them down.

(Like TonyTheTiger did with a season BC thread a year ago (?) during his disputes with ReggieDunlap.)

Probably. A moderator no doubt had enough of some of the posters out of control BS.
The only other time I remember an entire comment thread disappearing is when the 'creator' of the original post on the thread deleted the thread.

You were the 'creator' of those two threads. So, are you telling us you did not delete them?

You are correct, she will be playing one more year of field hockey at Ohio State. I wish it could have been ice hockey.
Makenna played the 'COVID' hockey season in 2020-21 that didn't count against her ice hockey eligibility, or - important for here - her 'five year clock'. She then played the ice hockey seasons ending in spring 2022, 23, 24, and 25. That uses up her ice hockey eligibility. But with her 'five year clock' running through the 2025-26 school year, she can use one more year of field hockey eligibility.

(Many years ago, Wisconsin hockey-soccer player Alev Kelter did much the same: three years of both soccer and ice hockey, then one year of just hockey, and finally her fifth clock year playing her fourth year of soccer.)

I'm assuming she may be even more impressive playing field hockey this season as the overlapping two sports took a toll on her physically.
I believe that. She had 53 pts as a So at UW, her point totals after than were 39 25 35. She must really love field hockey more than ice hockey.

Nice write-up. Like the insights on possible emerging players for this season. Are you going to do one for the Gophers?
