With the 2025-26 season drawing near, the Ohio State Buckeyes bid farewell to graduating players:
forwards
Makenna Webster (2024 NCAA champion)
Jenna Buglioni (2022, 2024 NCAA champion)
Kiara Zanon (2024 NCAA champion)
Maddi Wheeler
defenders
Riley Brengmann (2022, 2024 NCAA champion)
Emily Zumwinkle
goalie
Amanda Thiele (2022, 2024 NCAA champion)
Transferring away from the Buckeyes are freshman Josie St Martin, and junior goalie Lexington Secreto
(though, if I understand things correctly, Makenna Webster returns to play one more season on the OSU field hockey team)
Returning to the 2025-26 roster are:
forwards
Joy Dunne
Jocelyn Amos
Sloane Mathews
Jordyn Petrie
Jordan Baxter
defenders
Sarah Swiderski
Emma Peschel
Mira Jungaker
Brooke Disher
Maria Roth
Grace McCoshen
goalies
Hailey MacLeod
Genny Klein
transferring to OSU from Colgate is forward Kaia Malachino
And incoming freshmen
Hilda Svensson (Sweden)
Macy Rasmussen
Sanni Vanhanen (Finland)
Maxine Cimoroni
Kassidy Carmichael
defenders
Jenna Raunio
Leah Wicks
goalie
Taylor Kressin
That gives the Buckeyes a roster for 2025-26 with 11 forwards, 8 defenders, and 3 goalies.
After two years backing up and/or splitting time with Emma Soderberg and Eve Gascon at Duluth, and then another year doing likewise with Thiele at Ohio State, Hailey MacLeod might finally have the chance to be the #1 goalie. In front of her will be a fairly experience crew of six returning defenders, four (or five) of whom played extensive minutes in 24-25.
So, the real question mark will be at forward, where there are only five returning; and with transfer Malachino joining them, to give six 'experienced' forwards. That might mean the Buckeyes will go as far as their freshmen forwards can carry them. The incoming freshmen class certainly come with impressive resumes. But until they drop the puck, they remain a question mark for the team's fortunes.
