Ohio State vs Western Ontario 9/28

Re: Ohio State vs Western Ontario 9/28

I see the name western university I'm looking in BColumbia or the prairies for a location. I always wondered if some people in Ontario believe they are Canada and the rest is the hinterlands. I agree yuk and huh!

It is located in what is commonly known as South Western Ontario. This name quirk is no different than North Western being in Chicago. I have the good fortune to have/had children study at both OWU and NWU. Both top notch academic institutions with a long and storied history. Both even share the same "Color Purple", so that is a theme color in our household for sure. :)

OWU is one of the so called five Canadian big ivies.

Do you mean UWO or have they changed their name again? ;)

looking at the history of Northwestern University I see that the school was founded to serve what was then considered the northwest territory. Wouldn't expect them to change their name. It amazes me how many of these schools histories start out with a few religious men....

I always thought there were 4 Cdn ivies and none of them were in "South Western Ontario" :p.

I've always known it as UWO or simply "Western". Why mess with a good thing. After all is part of being an Ivie not being part of a tradition. ?

Interesting....could be true, but I've never heard this and I used to live in London and area for decades and have friends with kids going to UWO. If it has changed its name....I don't like it. :)

Just googled their website (duh) and it seems they have changed their name....Western University...yuk!!

The University of Western Ontario has not "changed" it's name in legal terms.
All official documents will bear UWO.
Western has just become so large and complex with all the schools within the University
This link should explain it

Re: Ohio State vs Western Ontario 9/28

Ohio State goals were scored by sophomore Katie Matheny, junior Julia McKinnon, and junior Kendall Curtis in the shootout. Freshman Kassidy Sauve started in net for the Buckeyes, freshman Alex LaMere played the second period, and redshirt-junior Stacy Danczak played the final period and the OT. Danczak stopped all three shots she faced on the shootout. Next up for the Buckeyes is a home series 10/3 and 10/4 vs New Hampshire.
