Ohio State vs Toronto Aeros 9/28

Re: Ohio State vs Toronto Aeros 9/28

Akin to Michigan losing to Appalachian State a few years ago in football - and look how that season turned out for UM.
While I agree with the first part of your post, a key difference here is that there is a huge difference in losing (or winning) an exhibition versus a game. An exhibition is just a scrimmage with better staging, serving to get the team accustomed to game conditions but not for serious evaluation by outsiders. Michigan's football loss represented a substantial percentage of its season. The OSU exhibition was zero percent of the Buckeye's season. IMO, that makes it much easier to turn the page and move forward.

Re: Ohio State vs Toronto Aeros 9/28

Couldn't agree more - almost disingenuous to try and put a good spin on it. But it's only an exhibition, something to learn from and plenty of time to regroup.
Not sure if you're addressing this to IllinoisDad or me. Both of us, I suppose. In any event, I presume you've reviewed my Unofficial 3 Stars. Let me say that I gave all three stars to the Aeros precisely because I didn't want to put a good spin on it. Not that I've written about that many OT games, but I believe that giving an OT loser no stars at all is unprecedented. Now in hindsight, maybe I should have withheld the honorable mentions as well. But I do think my post accurately reflects how this particular game was played.

Bigger picture, I certainly recall that you're a longtime regular on this board. I know you realize that my Three Stars posts are relentlessly positive, toward the winning and losing team alike. That's an intentional strategy on my part; I post the way I do for both philosophical and pragmatic reasons. At the same, I'm sure that there will eventually be a game that requires me to make an exception to the general rule. In other words, a performance so poor that the story simply can't be told without negativity. But that wasn't the case Saturday, IMHO.

pgb, my earlier post was written in agreement with what HockeyEast33 was saying - not in reference to your 3 Stars summary at all. And for what it's worth I am a regular reader of your 3 stars posts and I fully appreciate the way you do stay positive and support your team even when they do not play their best! I hope you enjoy the season and wish your team good luck! (except of course when you're playing our Gophers ;) )

Fair enough! Although in the exchange between 96IllinoisDad & HE33, I'd still take IllinoisDad's side of it. Maybe the four of us can get together and settle it with a Tennis Doubles match.;)

In any event, thanks for reading the 3 Stars and good luck to your Gophers as well.

This is what makes the game of hockey so interesting. Upsets happen even to good teams and this is where coaching will become extremely important. Rally the team and put that one behind you. Obviously, no one in the OSU dressing room was pleased with this result but dwelling on it will not change it. Move on and get better. That is really all a team can do.

Agree with this, and you can bet that Coach Nate and the team are working their butts off this week in preparation for our season opener at Mercyhurst.
