Ohio State vs RIT 12/8 - 12/9

Re: Ohio State vs RIT 12/8 - 12/9

Okay. It wasn't/isn't listed on the box score.
Understood. I think it's safe to assume that the error will caught and corrected. IIRC, the Game Misconduct is automatic if a 5 minute check from behind is called. A DQ is the only other possibility, and to the best of my recollection no DQ was called.

Pgb, I asked this on the WCHA thread, but I probably should have just asked it here in our thread, but was Madison Marcotte a healthy scratch this past weekend? I ask because I am pretty sure she was practicing Friday, but I could be wrong about that. Seems to me she wasn't playing in the Wisconsin series last month either.

The weekly thread is a better spot for this question than the league thread. The team thread would also have been a good choice. But that wasn't why I was a little slow to answer. Having no inside info on personnel decisions, the reply seemed like it could wait until a more convenient time.:o

Again, no inside info. But some things to keep in mind:

1. Obviously the 4th line forwards saw meaningful ice time during both games. So it was likely pre-ordained that 12 forwards were going to dress for both. Sometimes we suit up 11 forwards and 7 defenders. That configuration makes it a little easier for a 'D' to crack the line-up. Conversely, the 12 & 6 configuration makes it a little tougher.

2. Cara Zubko didn't play Friday against RIT but did play in the rematch. When I saw Cara in the lobby line-up Saturday, I thought Madison might be suited up as well. But clearly that wasn't the case. Again, some simple math is at work. With Cara taking one of the six available 'D' slots, that made it a little tougher for Madison to get in the line-up.

3. The above notwithstanding, Madison could be nicked up, with only those "in the room" in the know.

I checked the box scores after posting that and Madison hasn't played since that Wisconsin game you referenced, so I have to believe she is nicked up. Hope to see her back on the ice soon!

Hey, speaking of Cara Zubko, I had a nice conversation with her brother at the first intermission. He was standing in St. John Arena and I said something about it being a shame when they knock the building down, but that it would mean we are that much closer to getting a new hockey-only facility. He said he was playing pro hockey in Louisiana. I found out he is playing for the Louisiana IceGators, an affiliate of the New York Islanders. Seemed like a great guy! He is injured right now, so that gave him an opportunity to come up to Columbus and watch little sister play some college hockey!

I doubt any "wake-up call" is needed. But if so, we got it at Princeton.

While the WCHA remains the top league, it would be a mistake to assume that there's a large gap between us and the others. Also, teams from the other leagues no doubt use games against WCHA teams as a measuring stick for their own progress. In other words, the nonconference opponent is going to be focused and ready to go. If you make the mistake of coming out flat, you've got an immediate problem on your hands.

By all accounts RIT is a fine team, capable of giving anybody a good game. So we definitely need to "bring it" for the full 60 minutes.

Question For RIT Fans: Does the Women's Team get the same style of support that the Men's Team gets? At the 2010 Men's FF in Detroit, the RIT student section was fully engaged, loud, proud and funny. A number of them even ventured to the USCHO Posters' Game we held at Yost, bringing some of the same enthusiasm with them. Any chance we'll be treated to that this weekend in Columbus?

Posters game in PA this year, who's coming? :D

Great question, but there's another question that needs to be answered first: Is there going to be a Posters' Game at the Pitt FF?

As you probably know, there was no Posters' Game last year in Tampa. There were a couple of good reasons for that. First, all of the Florida activities, including the beaches, would have been very difficult to compete with. For that reason alone, taking a year off was the right call. But at a more basic level, most FF fans who fly to the host city are no longer willing to bring their hockey gear. The baggage fees of recent years have effectively precluded it. With that in mind, having a Posters' Game in Florida simply isn't viable.

The new question is whether a Posters' Game is viable anywhere outside the college hockey "hotbeds." Local support can get the job done -- think Detroit and Twin Cities -- but Pittsburgh is new to the Frozen Four. My guess is that we'd attract "some" players from Western PA, but not enough to fill one team, let alone two. So the bottom line is whether enough people who are driving to Pitt for the tournament will be willing to bring along their gear.

I'll start a Posters' Game thread in Cafe after the holidays. This is overdue, so I'm glad you raised the question. But we do need to wait until after the holidays to start; too many potential players will be aware from Board for the next couple of weeks. If we determine during January that there's sufficient interest, there will be enough time to plan the event.
