Ohio State vs North Dakota 2/21 - 2/22

Re: Ohio State vs North Dakota 2/21 - 2/22

I can certainly understand why, but that means she didn't get to march in the opening ceremonies (because of early game time the next AM) and now won't get to march in the closing ceremonies. A shame.

I was surprised to see Karvinen in the lineup. She is a fantastic player and we had to make sure we knew where she was on the ice. Kudos to goalie Lisa Steffes for stonewalling her on the breakaway. Overall, I thought it was one of the better games we have played this year, but it wasn't overly surprising as we have been playing some good hockey in the second half of the season. Getting three points was big for us tonight as we are now guaranteed to finish ahead of Bemidji. We will be heading to Duluth for the first round of the playoffs, which in my opinion, is a better matchup for us than going to Grand Forks! Goals were scored by the twins tonight. Kari Schmitt scored the first goal on a second period power play, and Sara Schmitt scored the empty netter late in the game. I might have that backwards. Congrats to goalie Lisa Steffes on the shutout. She came up huge tonight. Good luck to both teams tomorrow and also to UND in the WCHA Playoffs. Hard to believe the regular season is almost over already.

This. For further detail, see the 3 Stars Post on the WCHA thread.

The Buckeyes complete the sweep with a 3-1 victory on Senior Day! North Dakota actually got the first goal, scored by Amy Menke. The Bucks came back later in the period to tie it at 1 with a goal from senior Ally Tarr. The game remained tied at 1-1 throughout the second period and the teams went into the third period still tied. Kendall Curtis scored what turned out to be the game winner, and Danielle Gagne added another goal to make the final 3-1. The Buckeyes will head to Duluth for a first-round playoff series with the Bulldogs. North Dakota finishes in third and will be hosting Bemidji State.

UND has obviously been on a slump as of late but a lot of credit has to go to Ohio St. They have had quite the second half and Duluth will have a hard time with this Buckeye team!

Appreciate that. The Buckeye Stars did indeed shine brightly on Senior Night. Check it out on the WCHA thread.

Classy post, Northhockey. Good luck next weekend. I don't see Bemidji knocking your team out. Maybe we will see you in the WCHA Final Face-Off.

Taking Bemidji lightly would be a huge mistake. That said, UND will undoubtedly be well prepared. But there is a wild card factor. With BSU hosting the Final Face-Off, they'll be tremendously motivated to win in the first round. Now I'm not ready to predict that. Still, if the Beavers manage to pull it off, the atmosphere at Sanford for the semi-finals could be pretty special.

Certainly that's a sporting thing to say, but this one is a bit of a longshot. Obviously both OSU and UND would have to win in the first round, but that's just the start of it. For such a match-up to occur in the semi-finals, either the Badgers or Gophers would have to lose in the first round. If you want an OSU/UND Final, then both the Gophers and Badgers would need to lose in the earlier rounds. OK, anything can happen in playoff hockey. But I'm not prepared to bet the rent on either of those scenarios.

Re: Ohio State vs North Dakota 2/21 - 2/22

Yeah, that would be a real longshot, now that I think about it. More than likely, should we win in the first round, we will have to match up against Minnesota. I really don't see them or Wisconsin losing their first round series. I agree that Bemidji is not to be taken lightly, and don't think North Dakota will take them lightly after what transpired in Columbus this past weekend. Should be an interesting first round of playoffs.
