Ohio State vs Minnsota-Duluth 11/15 - 11/16

Re: Ohio State vs Minnsota-Duluth 11/15 - 11/16

I might think it a developing trend in Columbus if it were to happen once, or twice more.

I see McKinnon took a late crosscheck call with her team needing the equalizer. Didn't see it...reads like a possibly undisciplined play a coach might not be too pleased with.

Look forward to any eyewitness accounts of / thoughts on the game.

Buckeyes are struggling at home it seems.

Listened to the postgame presser with Coach Handrahan and he definitely was not happy with us taking a late penalty while needing an equalizer. Overall, we had our chances. We are just not executing at the offensive end. That, and we got off to a slow start, which allowed UMD to build a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period. Tough to dig out of that against a good team like UMD. As Blackbeard alluded to, we came out swinging and got a couple of second period goals, but we could never get the equalizer. Hopefully we get off to a better start tomorrow.

Blackbeard, glad you made the trip down! Enjoy your time in Columbus!

Didn't even notice what happened at the buzzer. Obviously last week's event got everyone's attention. My thought would be that there was a determination to nip anything in the bud at the first sign of trouble.

I didn't hear the presser, but if Coach Nate criticized that play, good for him. The penalty was disrespectful rather than violent. But it was also dumb, unnecessary and costly.

Got home from yesterday's doubleheader exhausted. Will post an abbreviated Three Stars on the WCHA thread in the next few minutes. Will have posts according to the usual standards for both Women's games by the end of the weekend.

We're not that far from success; I'm not sure "struggling" is the right word. But certainly it's been a frustrating run of games since the win over UND.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnsota-Duluth 11/15 - 11/16

Game appears somewhat less energetic than yesterday's...most of the first period was carried by the 'Dogs.

Commentators switched places from yesterday and today's play by play guy is so laid back that he's almost horizontal...no sense of urgency.

Interesting how the quality of the commentating that you're taking in through your ears can colour your perception of a game that you are witnessing with your eyes.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnsota-Duluth 11/15 - 11/16

They must have heard me...the commentators switched places and the colour commentator came to life...go figure.

Entertainment/excitement not registering on the Richter scale like it was yesterday but it seemed to improve in the second period.

OSU missed a great opportunity but hit the post with Black out of position and sliding back in an attempt to block the shot.

Unfortunate collision by two OSU players on a change in front of their bench resulting in a "too many chicks on the ice" minor. Talk about bad luck.

UMD power play is anemic although they scored after the end of an advantage but before the OSU player could join the fray.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnsota-Duluth 11/15 - 11/16

That OSU shorthanded breakaway might have turned things around for them with lots of time left if they had been able to capitalize on it.

They had opportunities but couldn't bury it. Same with the extra attacker for the last two minutes.

Play in the third period seemed the fastest of the game.

Surprised to hear that Steffes hasn't played much this year...according to the commentators. I've always thought that she was more than capable...very quick glove hand.

That has been the story of our last few weeks ... lots of chances, but we just cannot put the puck in the net. I thought the effort was there today, but we are just not scoring right now. It's putting a lot of pressure on our blue liners and goaltenders to shut everyone out or hold them to one or two goals, and that's not going to happen in this league. I think some of our forwards are getting frustrated and maybe holding the sticks a little tightly right now, which is not what you want. We really need a win right now. We have talent, we just need to get some pucks to bounce our way.

OK, the 3 Stars from Friday's game are now up on the WCHA thread.

The Saturday Stars will be up later today. Still catching up on this very busy sports weekend...

And, FWIW, the 3 Stars From Saturday are up, having been posted last thing yesterday.
