Ohio State vs Minnesota 3/8 WCHA Final Face-Off

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 3/8 WCHA Final Face-Off

This game is also one of my least-favorite all-time Gophers hockey memories:

Minnesota was the defending national champ and the WCHA regular-season champ and No. 1 seed in the tournament. Before there was Spooner making life tough on the Gophs, there was Corinne Rosen. At least I know that a loss tomorrow won't knock us out of the NCAA tourney.

And the Rochester rink was nothing to write home about, either. That was just a bad, bad weekend for Gopher fans.

OK no more negative thoughts, Gopher fans. This year WILL be different! :)

I remember the 2010 Final Face-Off game against Minnesota that went to double overtime like it was yesterday. That game was awesome.

That was the tying goal with under a minute left in the game. :) Best picture I've ever taken lol.

Anything can happen. GO BUCKS!!!

What a great picture! I see Natalie Spooner, Paige Semenza, and Raelyn LaRocque, but I don't recognize the fourth person on the right. Do you know who that is? Wait, that's Hokey Langan, isn't it? Great pic, CammieBuckeye, thanks for sharing that! Nice to see you making an appearance on here!

Hahahahaha I think a lot of people who aren't OSU fans have that recurring nightmare. :)

The rest of the world is going to have that recurring nightmare at the Sochi Olympics in a little less than a year from now.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 3/8 WCHA Final Face-Off

Valiant effort by OSU but 5 or 6 fanned shots and several bad passes in the offensive zone must have made it a frustrating game for them. The last power play was starting to take some shape (even though too late to affect the outcome of the game) and then came the penalties.

I thought they lacked intensity on offense and it often seemed that on rushes the forwards just weren't on the same page.

I didn't see enough of the game to make a call on what happened, but the part that I did see, Minnesota was definitely carrying the play. It also seemed like the score could have been a lot worse if not for the play of our netminder, Chelsea Knapp. It was a tough way for our five seniors to end their careers, but I believe the program took a step forward this season. Hopefully they can build on that and have a better season next year. We could not get past the Gophers (LOL, neither could anyone else), but we were competitive with the other traditional powers in the league.

True enough about Knapp. And that you were.

Thanks for the kind words, Blackbeard. Feel free to stop by our threads anytime, even if we are not playing the Bulldogs! Good luck to your team next season. Hopefully the injury bug leaves your program alone next season. I was happy to get past UMD, and it was a great effort by our kids, but I knew we were facing a UMD team that was decimated by injuries. We were fortunate in that department this season. For the most part, we remained relatively healthy throughout the season.
