Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

To me the shot in that tight area was the most impressive.
I have to agree, it was a very impressive wrist shot, about as hard and accurate as they come. But shame on the Buckeyes' team defense for allowing her to get it off. It was a true comedy of errors that allowed her to score on the play.

I agree, it was aweful D. I've seen way more impressive 1 on X rushes that have resulted in goals where 2 to 3 players get beat, then the goal is scored.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

I understand what you are saying, but in the past, we told them we were there for women's hockey and they let us in without charging us the $15. I think that is an inordinate amount of money to charge fans to park for a women's hockey game, JMHO.
Definitely correct on the price. And now that you mention it, I do remember that it used to be possible to talk your way into the usual lot, on a space available basis. But that was a few years ago, and there have been some big changes since that time:

1. Redeployment of the regular lot to Disability Parking
We're talking about single day permits with no reserved spots. Previously, as long as the staff believed they had a few spots unspoken for, they had the discretion to let us in. They were taking a bit of chance that they'd fill the lot and then a permit holder would show up. In other words, they ran the risk of overbooking. Now if you have enough experience to know what you're doing, the actual risk can be kept to a minimum. But if you're potentially taking away a parking spot from a disabled person, there's less discretion for obvious reasons. Even overbooking by one vehicle would now be very problematic.

2. More Night Football
Back in the day, it was more common for the FB game to kick-off at 12:00 Noon or 3:30 PM, with the hockey game facing off during Football. That allowed us to commute to Ice Rink on mostly deserted streets -- the huge FB crowd was already inside the stadium. With that arrival time, we were "taking" parking places from no-shows or football fans arriving extremely late. Now, though, the more common scenario is for the hockey game to precede night football. At that earlier point of the day, you can't really predict the number of no-shows with enough certainty to safely overbook.

3. The Arrival of Campus Parc The private company that currently manages parking is far stricter and less flexible than the University ever was.

None of those things makes the $15 fee right; I'm just trying to explain why things are the way they are.

One more reason to build a new ice arena for our hockey programs, preferably where the other new facilities are being built these days.

Somehow this has become the USPLO fan forum :D United States Parking Lot Org
Just going to take a wild, crazy guess: You aren't attending the games this weekend, so you fail to see the relevance.:p

Also, no disrespect intended, but unless you travel to away Football games, FB Saturdays at OSU are beyond your range of experience. I'll attempt to translate. Take a Gopher/Badger Football crowd. Add a Viking/Packer crowd. Put the combined group in the middle of the State Fairgrounds on one of the busiest days of the Fair. Now, try to imagine the parking situation on the St. Paul Campus and you've more or less got it.

All I'm saying is that Parking on an OSU Football Saturday is a major issue for anyone needing to be on campus that day, just as it would be in the hypothetical situation described above. Football Saturday at the Bank? Cool event, but on a smaller scale. Navigation and parking are understandably more manageable.

Ok, back to the game. :D The Gophers take game one by a final score of 7-2. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie, then the Gophers erupted for 4 goals in the second period to take a 5-1 lead in the second intermission. The Gophers tacked on two more goals in the third before Ohio State added a late goal (with just over a second left in the game) to make the final score 7-2. Credit the Buckeyes for never quitting tonight. Minnesota just had too much firepower, along with some stellar goaltending from Amanda Leveille. Buckeye goals were scored by senior defenseman Cara Zubko and junior forward Claudia Kepler. Minnesota's goals were scored by Sophie Skarzyns, Kate Schipper, Cara Piazza, Brook Garzone, Nina Rodgers, and Dani Cameranesi (2). The two teams are back at it tomorrow at 2:07 pm EST.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

The Buckeyes really need to try to avoid penalties. It might help their game.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

If you think you they can be a success taking 13 minutes of penalties per game, more power to you.
Keeping penalties to a minimum is good advice for any team. I don't pretend to have a target number for penalty minutes; I'll leave that to those who get paid to coach.

Regardless, the dispositive factor in tonight's game was the fact the Gophers were the better team 5x5. The suggestion that penalties were the story stems from your ongoing bias, not sound observation.

I never said it was the difference tonight; you created that on your own. I said that going forward, you'd better stop taking so many trips to the box. I'd be more guilty of bias if you weren't the most penalized team in the country.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

Didn't need more smileys. Without the roll eyes, it might have been joke. With the roll eyes, not.

Sorry, I don't speak emoticon I was doing my best using google translate. I'll try to do better next time.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

What's up with two late-period goals by the Buckeyes? Dan's call made it sound like there should have been a whistle on the first, but not the second.

Re: Ohio State vs Minnesota 10/16 - 10/17

Dan's call made it sound like there should have been a whistle on the first...
That wasn't my take from Dan's comments. He said Krissy Morrisson was right there by the net getting a good view, and that nobody from Minnesota was able to freeze/clear the puck. I never heard him say it should have been blown dead.

The simple take on one game could be as pgb says that OSU wasn't hurt by penalties, but that can't be true in the long haul. A team like the Buckeyes, that is already at a talent disadvantage in many league games, can't afford to be leading the country in penalty minutes. Having to kill robs a team of momentum and tires out the best players that are asked to skate on the PK. I watched what undisciplined penalties did to Minnesota when it set a record for penalties in Frost's early years, and it was only after the staff put in the directive of three or less penalties a game that the team turned a corner.

Even last night, the one goal OSU did yield was the game's first goal, which is key to letting a team know it is possible to score on the goalie after she had played great for 19 minutes.

I'm not even sure what this means! The idea that a rolleyes could be use in a friendly way is a new one on me. But maybe my emoticon is also inadequate. Sorry for my part in the disconnect.
